That makes me curious, did the system shockers (:p) complain about that one as well?

Hmm, how did I miss that one?
If he thinks the whole story revolved around SHODAN turning on you, then he surely missed the point. The fact that SHODAN was the villain and that you'd eventually butt heads with her was meant to be blatantly obvious, well at least to us. The brilliant part of the plot was how you were forced to work for someone you knew was evil because you really had no choice. SHODAN's slide show speech was IMO all about her trying to scare you into submission, and make you come to the realization that it's in your best interests to serve her.
To draw a parallel to DX, ask yourself, if there was going to be some kind of plot twist involving your character's affiliation, what would it be? Of course you end up turning on your former employers and working for the resistance! Very Crusader-esque.

I'd love to see a game which was like a cross-breed between Deus Ex 1/2 and No One Lives Forever, ie. with "real world" settings, and cool spy gadgets like the camera blocker (as well as the general purpose Dx multi-tools).

I've never even played DX 1. At the moment, the demo for DX 1 is slowing downloading.

Just a rather pessimistic comment, but is anyone still cheering for the prospect of Deus Ex 3 when the second seems to be in dire straits with most old fans? I hear it's quite sluggish, and AI are non-existent, it takes 5-6 head shots to kill them, and havok is quite poorly implemented (to name a few complaints). So, if it's true many/most aren't enjoying it, why parade around a news release for DX3? I realize David posted this before the second came out, but just thought I'd ask if anyone is still looking forward ;)

No. Playing through the original, I can see how pitiful the AI was in that. Shoot with tranq dart, hide. WIN. However, DX:IW doesn't seem to do any better and in some cases even worse since they don't react to taking damage.

I must be the only one in the world who liked the AI in DX1....
Crion on 13/12/2003 at 21:26
Well, it was ok but they are really stupid. That should have been improved upon.

There was some grumbling about the loss of cyberspace and wire puzzles. Overall it was really well-received.
The maddening thing about DX2 is that they did it in reverse-- the sequel has much less refinement, complexity, and sophistication than the original.

/\ Agreed.
