In this, you're dead wrong. Getting anything done in the DX2 interface is considerably MORE fuss. Before, you could do anything in your inventory with simple clicking and drag/dropping. Now it's a muddy, botched mouse/keyboard hybrid.
And yes, this is all very reminiscent of Halo. Yet another poorly-optimized, dumbed-down console port.

anyone seen this yet?

Ok, im one of those guys cursed with a old card that cant do pixel shaders. So i need to get my info secondhand...
We have established that the interface sucks and you need to tweak yer .ini files to tidy things up. That the communal ammo pool is weird. That the physics are cartoonish and unreliable etc etc... Ok.
What is the actual game[play] itself like?
Uncia on 22/11/2003 at 18:26
Say wha? The ammo pool is unusual, but once you die a couple of times before realizing one empty weapon means they're ALL empty, it opens up whole new strategic aspects. And the physics are neat; ragdoll for people [bit too flaily, but it's fun to look at], objects roll, slide, all depending on their material [throw a pillow at the wall and it'll slide down along it. Throw a box and it'll bounce off].
Also, any petition that uses the word "realisticness" gets little more than laughs from me. ;)

I can't play the demo thanks to my GeForce4 MX POS, but from the comments I gather that DX:IW suffers from what I knew was inevitable all along--consolitis. No matter what the developer says, the X-Box is inferior to a modern PC, and a game targeting both will be inferior to a game targeting a PC exclusively.
Back in the aulden days, cutting edge developers would release a game almost unplayable on common systems, but over time (and not infrequently as a result of the game) we upgraded, and the full glory of the game became more evident after the initial 2-3 fps bitchfest. With consoles, developers can shoot for a stationary target a few years old, rather than making a game for tomorrow's commonplace systems. Easier work, more money...selling out is inevitable. And selling out it is, not pragmatism or expedience, but a pure and knowing reduction in quality for the sake of money and nothing else.
If companies want to make games for console-bound children, then that's fine, but when they steal the talent from my favorite game developers such that I can no longer get my hardcore PC gaming fix, I get cranky.

Only if you insist on using it like that. With the keyboard alone I can do anything quickly with just the movement keys and two others. I've replaced Enter with Space for selecting items in the .ini and it works like a breeze.

I wasn't hopeful but the demo ran fine for me: GF3 ti200 128-Meg, T-Bird 1-Gig, 256 RAMoids (133-speed) in 800X600 with most things medium but it's very dark. Switching to 1024X768 was still highly acceptable and the gamma went up a lot; weird.
Shame to lose flashlight when switching to knife; will bio-light be available in full game?
Powerslave is only other game I know with generic ammo pick-ups but using ammo doesn't drain all.

It's available in the demo. Didn't find it? Blame the godawful interface.

GOD I HATE THE LOCALIZED DAMAGE

Headshots with pistol didn't seem to do much...

No screenshot, but I'll let you see for yourself. When your at Mona Sak ("I'll give you a short deal. It'll be shortening your life!"), kill all the guards as usual, and then, pick up the any guards you have slain.
(One more shitty thing about the game, anyone else just see an arm sticking out with a guard floating in midair? Certainly doesn't look like anythings hoisted over my shoulder.)
Walk to the wall that is on the opposite side of you when you climb up the ladder, where that gas/propane tank is based against the rail. Jump on top of the rail, go as far as you can and drop the guard into the wall.
You'll get either of these two results.
1. His head will stick in the wall.
-He'll hang there like there was some teleporting accident. Pretty amusing.
2. His arm & possibly his head as well will get stuck.
-Very amusing as well, his arm will start stretching, and there'll be this odd clunking sound. They'll continue to fall downwards while hugging the wall until they meet the pipe, there, they will stay hanging. I had about 5 npc's hanigng from the pipe, and went down below the platform and started shooting them, it looked ridiculous.
I'll try and take some screens, but anyways about my comments on the game. Theres nothing really unique about this game. I absolutely loathe the simplicity that has been implimented upon the weapons... Nano-ammo... What a crock of shit. The only game that really worked in was Battlezone, and I would have still preferred seperate ammo types for each 'kind' of weapon.
[Sarcasm]Oh yeah, no reloading? That was another smart move on Ion Storms part.[/Sarcasm]
We also now have Thief 3 in Ion Storm's hands... I would have much preffered the project given to Irrational Games... Oh well.
Sorry about bitching everyone. : \ I was just horribly let down, thanks for reading.
