DX1 had a separate issue though - at the time it was running on a version of the Unreal engine that had been heavily optimized for Glide, and had lousy Direct3d performance. Of course, DX was coming out at a time when the majority of the gaming public was starting to use non-3dfx cards.

Not too dissimilar. Right now, it's an nVidia versus ATI issue. And participating in another game's beta, I can tell you the two bring a whole host of issues with themselves; there's no "write once, run all" solution, even with DirectX.

I noticed in several comments from the developers they keep mentioning the "core gameplay." My theory is they focused on that too much and completely forgot about the peripheral elements that are every bit as important.
Or maybe they were replaced by pod people.

Sweet! You can mantle!

(sigh) WHAT is wrong with the interface?
Do I need to spell it out slowly?

I prefer this interface to Deus Ex's - less fuss, less muss.

The fact that the interface is where it is doesn't bother me a great deal, however I in no way found it any more useful or useable than an ordinary game interface, it just takes more getting used to because everything is in an odd place.
Forget that rubbish about it being more natural or whatever, you still have to focus on it and not the game environment, so having it where it is adds nothing to its usefulness.

After reading through the tweaks thread on the ISA board I'm actually liking the demo a lot more now. Just setting mouse lag to 0 makes a giant difference. It appears that for some reason they released a demo heavily optimized for the X-Box.

I am reminded of Halo.
Both in how the movement/shooting feels and the reactions from players.
Neither is a good memory.
JonahFalcon on 22/11/2003 at 17:30
Huh? Great memory for Halo with movement/shooting. What are you talking about?

And in true Thief tradition [whatever that has to do with DE], exploration of the map outside of designated areas. :p
