I'm not a Deus Ex player. I might be one day. But this was fun regardless (once I got past the utterly infuriating inability to save settings. It saves my controls and graphics settings now, but only applies them when I load a game. Weird)
Feels pretty much like an adventure game.
Are Greasels meant to be really really stupid and astoundingly dull pit fighting creatures?
How could anyone claim to make an "immersive sim" and leave out a head bob and leaning abilities to really put you in the game?
Speaking of which is there any way to alter the actual game field of view. No obvious setting the config leapt out at me (most games use 90 degrees, but I'll change it if I can. If you've got a 21 inch monitor and you play with your face less than a foot away from the screen, maybe that'd work. Maybe. The rest of us would be better off with 80 or lower)
Oh yeah...and when I was in the bar this chick walked up to me (I was female as well) and got snippy for me bumping into her. Then when I confronted her she made some snide remark about uptown trash washing up downtown more and more these days or something, so I picked up a bar stool and smacked her with it...
Nothing happened, no matter how hard I tried.
This is quite disappointing.

Maybe you didnt hit her. Didnt she fell down to the floor or got unbalanced ?
That doesnt sound like a Warren game at all.

My GOD! It feels soo very much like a console game! Jesus, after all their talk about how it's not made only for the console and it's not dumbed down, I had started to believe them. This just makes me want to cry. Have I waited two, three years, for this!?
It's downright ugly, sloppy controls, runs like a slug even in 800x600, and the interface is so confusing it's not even funny. Fuck.

Weird. I have an XP2000 witha 4200Ti and at 1024x768 [with everything but Bloom]], the game runs just as fast as at 640x480 framerate-wise. There's an annoying split-second lag between issuing orders and their execution [both mouse and keyboard] but I'm hoping that gets fixed; it has no connection with the resolution.
...and what's that about Morrowind? I can't get that game to run +20FPS, /ever/. It runs at the same speed on my +2000, 1GB RAM and a GF4 4200Ti as it did on my old 1000, 512MB, GF2MX; SLOW. The water looks prettier, but the framerates never goes over 20; 640x480 runs just as fast [slow] as 1600x1200. Maddening.

Thief III had better be fabulous. It's gonna cost me about CDN $600 to get sort of near GBM's rig and this doesn't sound worth it.

Mine too! It was choppy, late in responding, and generally sluggish.
P4 3.0ghz, 800fsb mobo
1 gig Corsair DDR400
GeForce4 4600ti
I just, and I mean JUST, put this machine together. It should be more than enough to handle DX2. Hopefully they'll optimize the game better before release.

Anyone remember how DE1 ran with quality textures turned on? My guess is something similar is going on here.

Weird. I have a 1.4gHz Thunderbird with a Ti4400 running the 52.xx drivers and DX9 and at 1280x1024x32 with the detail cranked up the game is incredibly smooth. I was expecting an upgrade to be necessary to run this and Thief 3, so I'm actually really surprised with the performance. I did have to upgrade my drivers to get it to work correctly - my old driver set was causing the screen to flicker whenever I moved the mouse, and the overall framerate, from what I could gauge standing still, was horrible.
Glad to see the fonts can be changed, that's the only aspect of the demo I've found disappointing so far. The sound and the lighting is incredible, and the gameplay is pretty much exactly what I was expecting.

the drivers, it's always the drivers

...only when running sloppy game code.
