Were 20 different types of ammo, reloading, a jigsaw puzzle inventory, and leaning what made DX1 a great game? No. It was the emergent gameplay, multiple solutions to problems, character customization, and an involving storyline. DX:IW still has all of these, and more so for some of them. Yes, a lot of things have changed. No, not everyone will like how they've changed (as is very evident reading these forums). This is how we made the game, and we stand by it. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.

Does any UT2003 mod have leaning?
CocoClown on 24/11/2003 at 07:18
There is locational damage, head shots at least. The pistol just isn't very good at 'em (and may be tweaked so). The sniper rifle, which *is* there, apparently is pretty nifty at the ol' one-shotting

Well, predictably... after playing through the demo again, I am enjoying it even more.
One major difference, is I stopped the resolution at 1024x768 this time. I had been doing 1280 and even trying 1600. I do think I should be able to run it fine at 1600 with my specs, but that's a seperate issue.
This helped a great deal, when the game was running smoothly it just felt a lot tighter, and a lot better. The physics, the lighting, etc were all just more enjoyable and impressive (well, not as impressive because higher res is always better, but to have them running properly and smoothly was more impressive)
I still agree with all the gripes I typed earlier, and that others have had... and I'm hoping to see some of these things improved in the final version, either out of box or with patches later.
But, overall... I'm enjoying the game more and more, and I think it's going to be great.

The ammo added diversity and even more options for different situations (Ie:Tranq darts, fire darts)
The jigsaw puzzle inventory actually made some sense when it came to the size of weapons.
Reloading? Without this, you take away one motivation to not use cover that you can hide behind while you reload, and now rather just run around like Rambo with your unlimited clip.
Leaning? ... They're more stupid than I thought, but of course, we don't want to have a realistic or actual suspense raising sneaking experience now do we!?
Multiple Sol'ns? Pretty much now all I see is blow the shit out of everyone, since it's so damn easy, you can do it this way and keep your money as well.
Character customization? Biomods, whoopie f***'ing do, you'll probobly find enough to max yourself out near the end anyways.
Involving storyline? First one wasn't bad I'll admit, but now, they implemented a clone... Yes, a clone. Lack or originality much? What happened to the original! "OH GOD THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME!"

NPCs failing to drop at point blank ranges with headshots (destroys immersion/unrealistic)
+
automatic hacking of ATMs and lockpicking of doors
+
no lean (ANY stealthy character relies on leaning EXTENSIVELY)
+
no reload (unrealistic/destroys immersion)
+
unified ammo (unrealistic/destroys immersion)
+
no quicksave (inconvenient)
+
No localized damage (unrealistic/destroys immersion)
+
no differing interface styles to choose from (many MANY people complained about this from the beginning)
+
little actual stealth gameplay (major mistake if demo is indicative of full version)
Equals...

Good luck with the full game release ISA...

One thing that unified ammo did was remove the "shit, this is a tough situation. Ahwell, I'll just use up all that insanely overpowered ammo I've been hoarding and get by it without a problem" scenes and made the whole thing feel more strategic. When you know you can't just go in rockets blazing, then whip out your machine gun to finish off the rest. And that I applaud.
