I've downlaoded the demo but I can't play it until I've got my new graphics card (GF3 Ti 200). I've heard that people are being dissapointed. Is this true?

Some people didn't like Matrix Revolutions too. These people should have their head examined. ;)
DX2 demo is quite good.

I think you used one negative too much in there...

I was dissapointed with elements of it. Namely the new streamlined interface, which makes it unintuative and like... weak... not as powerfull, I don't know how to describe it. You don't have enough commands to map, because all the ones that are even slightly redundant are removed, because you can't have them on the Xbox. So stuff like leaning is out, as is having a key for turning off all biomods, or a key to put your weapon away, you need to select your current item to put it away, and that means if you have an item out that isn't on your belt you need to select one on your belt and then select it again to put it away. This is compounded by the fact that multitools are automatically equipped if you use a keypad or door (lockpicks and multitools are one now) so there's little reason to put it on your toolbelt, except to have an easy way to put them away when you are done.
The game is fine, just all the streamlined stuff they did that they are so proud of is a mistake.

I on the other hand disagree completely. I hated DE1's interface [it was a mincromanaging minigame in itself], it was slow [framerates dropped and made the pointer laaaaag], the fonts were too tiny to be read at high resolutions, there were entirely too many windows for all your stats...
The new one is a complete reversal. I'd prefer an option for font sizes, but all else is an improvement. Once you start using the keys for it [and not trying to do it DE1 style], you can now access items and implants in a very fast manner; unlike in DE1, where you stopped, peered closely at the teeny tiny font that said which number the item corresponded with, then finding it on your keyboard [I play in the dark, hitting F# to activate the shield in an emergency was not an option]; either that or just hitting general numbers in that area and correcting yourself once you say what you pulled out.
I wish the interface animated faster, I wish the text fonts were adjustable, but bar that, it's all good, baby.
...oh. And when you encounter a locked door and try to use it, you whip out the proper tool to hack it open automatically; no more need to waste toolbelt slots for items you don't need most of the time.

Never mind that there are now only SIX toolbelt slots. :nono:

As I've said elsewhere, I wasn't particularly impressed with the demo, although I'm not exactly disgusted. It mainly seemed to me that the demo needed copious tweaking and optimisation, rather than that there was some basic problem with the core concept. I can appreciate Ion's desire not to compromise one version of their game by "tailoring" to the other, but having a game set up identically for the PC and Xbox is impractical. The PC version needs a modified control scheme, a tweaked interface, graphical optimisations, etc. Considering how much the existing demo can be improved by merely tweaking a few values in the pleasingly comprehensive config files, it does not seem like these changes would be a monumental task - but of course I know nothing of the internal situation at the studio.
And, as the developers stated on the boards - the fundamental problem for a demo in a game like DXIW is that the game's true strengths, the things that make it stand out from so many others, are customisation, storytelling, immersion, and freedom. None of the above can be adequately expressed in an area as small as the demo - and anything larger than what we have would be too impractical to host and download.
No doubt some people will be disappointed after playing this admittedly poorly-configured demo. No doubt some people will feel angered or betrayed and no doubt some people will not buy the game, but I personally shall await it with great interest, if not perhaps the level of breathless anticipation I once held.

For me, the most annoying thing about the interface was the fact that it takes three seconds for the inventory menu to spin into view.....and the fact that there was nothing wrong with the original dx interface in the first place. Granted, i appreciate the auto-multitooling and that i can no longer waste a tool by jerking my tool away and-oh crap! I suppose it wouldnt be too much to include the classic interface as well? As for the game, the concept and story look good, the ambience and stuff to read is good, graphics are great. I do miss being able to backstab with the knife....and come to think of it, i think the old knife looked better.

I find it cool, being able to read the comments on the demo, so it's likely I won't be trying it, but go for the retail version instead.
I have just recently replayed DeusEx, where the only thing that actually bothered me was the tetris mini-game with the inventory. Other than that, the interface seemed adequate, and it showed that one was running it on a friggin' PC, where people have keyboards. So, I said it before and I'll say it again: constraining the PC port with the highest common delimiter in the number and distribution of keys is a bad bad thing.
Anyway, I was surprised to see that Alex Denton is actually in DeusEx.

Cons
-Weak locational damage+takes a lot to kill enemy (ie. must prod them for 5+ seconds to bring them down)
-Graphics not so hot
-Runs poorly without messing with .ini files
-Bug with remapping controls
-NPC's eye's are all bugged out
-Lip-synching is poor
-Inventory management is a step backward
-Lack of options (leaning, holstering, etc.)
-Rag-Doll physics not too good (compare to Max Payne 2)
-Jumping is like you're on the moon
-Running out of all ammo at once is a pain
-Less involved hacking/keypads
Pros
-Game storyline will probably be good (can't tell from demo)
-Lots of different ways to accomplish things
While I admit I only played through the demo once, I think that most people would agree on these points. Feels very console-y in general, down to little things like "press tab to drop". I'm not going to write the game off, but the demo has really lowered my expectations.
