the demo sucks :(

I like it. It's a bit on the short side, but it's fun so far. Greasel fighting is half the fun.

I thought it was pretty good. From what I've seen there's alot of potential for it to be even better than the original..it's been streamlined for the console crowd, but it hasn't been dumbed down like everyone has been fearing.
But even if you don't like it you can consider it a good test bed to see how well Thief III will run on your machine. Judging from the screenshots TIII looks to be a bit more detail heavy than DX2, but it'll still give you a ballpark idea.
In other words if you have anything lower than a Geforce 3 you better upgrade or you won't be playing it.

Some good tips I found at Fileshack.com:
Quote:
Tips to having a better experience with the DX2 demo:
1) Play as female Alex. Male Alex is an ass clown, but female Alex is well done.
2) Use the see through walls biomod. It helps navigating the map and figuring out what different routes lead to tremendously.
3) Use mantling. You can easily clear the fence in the very beginning section if you jump against it and hold the jump key. Hack the security console and have fun.
4) Pick up bodies, ignore the face that the visual for holding up a corpse is very poor, worse than Thief 1, and toss bodies off buildings or into the dumpster. I found it amusing to do that :p
5) Talk to the NPC's over and over to hear all their dialogue. Some of it actually helps, like the bartender gives you advice on who to bet on in the greesel fights. When I followed his advice I won on my first try.
6) Try out the shotgun and flamethrower. They are pretty cool.
7) Take off the read only attribute on the user.ini file in "my documents/deus ex - invisible war/" and it'll save your settings. The game looks very poor on default settings, and I'm guessing many people tweaked the settings then hit escape thinking it saved them and were like "WTF IS THIS SHIT?" Make the config editable, change settings, and the game looks good (imo, anyway)
The demo is very small...I'm hoping there is more to the full game than meets the eye from it. After finally sitting down and beating this demo I'll say that it shows alot of promise, although it took me a while to get used to its feel which is alot different than DX1

Well, I've downloaded the demo from fileplanet and tried to install it and....uhm....is it just me or are you unable to select the directory you want to install Deus Ex 2 in? I dont get a screen where you can select the folder:nono:
Epos Nix on 22/11/2003 at 13:01
It asks you if you want to do a custom install. Select that and you'll have the option of putting it where you want.
ZylonBane on 22/11/2003 at 18:40
Bloody hell, that's not how installers usually work.
The whole thing stinks of a rush job, doesn't it? If you look at the INI files, there are actually comments that say what settings are best for the XBOX and the PC... and they're on the XBOX settings! This is no way to roll out the demo for one of the most anticipated sequels in PC gaming.
If we can take anything good away from this, it's that all the talent at ISA must be working on Thief 3.
Uncia on 22/11/2003 at 18:47
ISA didn't write the installer. Battlegrounds uses the same installer and it works in exactly the same way [albeit stupid]. Not much they could have done about it, bar writing their own.
ZylonBane on 22/11/2003 at 19:29
Or using one of the many other installers out there.
