Has anyone bumped into the issue where DX1 runs too fast, or too slow? (different on each boot) Couldn't find help for this on Google or forum search...
I just installed DX on Vista 64-bit (GeForce GTX 260, AMD 6400+), and it either runs in slow-motion or stuttery fast-motion.
Any ideas?

The most elementary searches of the Deus Ex forum yield all sorts of variations on your problem. So since you're lazy--
Turn on VSYNC. Turn off CPU throttling (Cool'n'Quiet).

Personaly, i solved the problem by using (
http://www.cpukiller.com/) CPUKiller, a funny little program since its role is to charge your cpu enough to make old software run at the right speed.
I didn't want to change my bios settings just to run DX so i used this enough to make the game stutter a little (you can set the burden size), then once Deus Ex was launched and running, i alt-tabbed and removed the charge from the cpu. DX then continued running at the right speed.
I hope it does the trick for you, enjoy your DX run.

Ho' boy, Zylon Bane. :D My favorite forum do-gooder, and contender for Not-An-Asshole-Who-Lives-On-The-Forums-Terrorizing-Everybody of the Year. Looks like you might (

I've gone over the threads talking about the game running too fast. But you're absolutely right. My pre-elementary level searches must have been too inept to find a solution for MY issue. Next time I won't search for "lol" and "wtf help".

Thanks for the respectful, not-an-ass response, Travolta.
Actually, the issue resolved itself today, after I re-installed my second video card. (had some hiccups trying to get (
http://www.deefrag.com/gunreal/images/dario_modding/d4_b.jpg) my setup to work right) Since DX worked fine for me on XP a few months ago, I assumed the video cards couldn't be at fault... also considering that I had read about DX running too fast before (though never randomly alternating between too fast and too slow, which I assumed had to be more unique).
I'll see if it holds up like this... If it doesn't, I'll give that app a shot.

The easiest way to fix the high-speed problem is to use the third party opengl renderer. Just google for deus ex opengl. It has the ability to limit the frame rate, so you can set it to not exceed 100 or whatever you want. Once you install the renderer, fire up DX, press T, delete say and type preferences. You can change the "frameratelimit" under rendering/opengl. The default opengl renderer always exhibited weird artifacts for me. It looked like I had a shard of glass stuck to the end of my gun... very strange indeed.

Force V-sync on.
If you're using the OpenGL renderer:-
Go into the Nvidia control panel and turn off extension limit. (I have no idea about the ATI equivalent, but it would involve limiting the OpenGL instructions around - turn any such feature off.)

Thanks for the help.
That custom renderer sounds interesting... only problem is, I can't seem to run any OGL games (including Google Earth in OGL mode) when my third screen is active. There's some issue with using 2 video cards at once.
Update: I can play fine now, but one of the times I launched the game today, it was running in super slo-mo... heh. On the plus side, it was a trip to do some fighting at that speed. I didn't know some of the effects looked that bad (like the bullet-impact yellow spark thingy).
