Yes I did a search and no the only thing I had come back was a story, and some herb mixer lists.
How does detect key work I have tried it ooh a 100 or more times and I cant seem to see what it does,I do know my (Oh jees I cant remember) ,but what ever it is the rating is high,so it should work for me.does the key show up on the map or on the first person view screen ???
BTW-since Im in the mood for questions is there a way to switch the forum views I detest this flat view that I guess is the default.

Detect key works by putting a yellow circle (not a disc, it's hollow) on your local and mini-map where keys are at; they'll definitely show if NPCs are carrying them, and maybe (untested) if they're in containers at that location. Its fault is that it draws the circles at casting time (or when you enter the map) and doesn't update them... which can be a pain if the NPC wanders.

Detect enchantments and key dont work if the item is in a container you haven't opened before.

Ah? Good to know, thanks, Kilana. (Really odd implementation there though, no? Why would one care more about detecting from contaners you've opened, after all...)

As many of you know I made the Alchemy Chart, so I make potions that detect keys. I went into the construction set and made a mod for all the alchemy equipment sothat it doesnt weight anything and has a quality of 5. That makes really really strong potions even at a very low alchemy skill. I can detect keys for about 5 minutes sometimes.
Here is the scoop...
If a NPC has a key, it will update, but it takes its sweet time, and the NPCs dont usually move a great distance to begin with, so you might not notice.
If you have a potion like what I made, it has a really large radius of detection. Several hundred feet. If you use something like that in a multi-leveled building, when you look at the map you will see the circle indicating the key, but it doesnt tell you which floor it is on. There is a guy in Ebonheart that has a key, and I could detect him from 3 floors above him.
I now have a question. Outside of Ebonheart, there is a underwater cave with a guy in there that has the Lords Mail on. Its worth 190,000. Well if you do a detect key in there, you will find that a little yellow circle shows up to the right or the guy with the armor. It is somewhere in the water. I have looked everywhere for that key, in the containers on the ground, but I cant find it. Is anybody else having this problem???
Please let me know.

Chaos, I believe the key you are detecting is
the one hidden under the guy who stole the Lord's Mail pillow in the barracks in Ebonheart. There is a secret passage from the caverns to his room, so it may appear the key is in the caverns but actually above it.
Thanks Munkilord, Ill try that out. I knew about that, but I remember finding the key. I know that there is a lock on the door of 90. Does the other side of that door have 2 Guards??
Thanks,

I believe that the key you detects are the one situated in a floating crate in the pool of water next to the fallen legionaires "living room"... The one underneath the pillow in his former quaters is on another level altogether!
The key opens a secret door into castle ebonhart! There's some fault with the quest though - as far as I can see - because you cannot unlock the small shrine area in the basement with the key that you find! Thus preventing you from entering the cave the way you should - instead of entering from the seaside!
Don't cheat yourself of the glass longsword! It's on the ledge behind his bedroll!
