Hello all. Just upgraded to a 22" LCD widescreen monitor (native resolution 1680 x 1050) and was wondering how Deus Ex would play at this resolution?
I mean will it streach out and make eveything seem that little bit fatter, or just play in normal 4:3 with black bars down the side??
Also I read on shifter's latest release notes that yuki added a whole assload of new resolution options with 1.72. Do any of these include widescreen resolutions??
thanks alot

I recently compared screenshots of Deus Ex with someone with a widescreen, and it seems that Deus Ex's idea of widescreen is just chopping off viewing area from the top and bottom, rather than adding viewing area to the sides.
This confirms what I've said before: "The way I see it, widescreen isn't more sideways, it's less up and down."

That's why I pointed out that the method WSGF apply is Horiz +, rather than Vert -. :p

I run at 1280X960, if I remember correctly. Putting it at 1680X1050 (my monitor's optimum resolution) just makes the hud go crazy.

Ah, my mistake. *Makes a note of that thread*
Still, this latest fad of buying a widescreen monitor for gaming seems like a very poorly thought-out decision to me. Maybe you can force Deus Ex to run at that aspect ratio, but not so the other TTLG games.

WOW!!!!!!!! Thanks so much to Matthew for that link!
Here I was pretty much clutching at straws but what do you know, there is a future!!
Combine this with the latest two shifter updates and the HDTP completion and this should be a whole new experiance for me. Can't wait!!
By the way I have spend most of the last 12 months living overseas without an internet connection, its nice to come back and find the DX alive and kicking just as it was before I left. If only the same thing could have been said about the Arcanum community but oh well :erg:
Just as soon as I get that 8800gts I will be in DX heaven, hahha.
Now, I wonder how it runs in Vista 64..........

Except most games coming out now support widescreen resolutions, and to pass for the Games for Windows branding they're REQUIRED to support widescreen. Widescreen monitor for legacy gaming may not be such a hot idea, but for modern gaming it's pretty indispensable.
