I've made it to level 7 and I need some help with all the fire areas. I've got the scales which I received in exchange for the rotworm stew, but I think I need something to attach them with (spider webs?) and I cannot find these suckers anywhere. Is there any other way? Can someone point me in the right direction?

You can find spider thread in the twisty passages on the north side of the first level, just past the Gray Goblins' area.

Thanks for your quick reply. I hope you can tell me that there is more than one spider web in the game. I vaguely remember picking it up in the area you are referring to, trying to use it a to make a fishing pole further into the game and then discarding it when I came across a real fishing pole. God only knows where! It may take me several days to find it again, if at all!
Another thing...when I did the Grey Goblin King a favor by killing all the spiders in the aforementioned area, he didn't even seem to notice. In fact, when I recently spoke to him, he still referred to the spider as a major problem of his. Did I miss something?

I don't think you've missed something, that's just how the game behaves somethimes (it's not a bug). I think.
There are two or three pieces of spider thread in the game. Hope you'll find one (initially they are all in the same place, the spider lair).

The heck with the webs...now I've got a bigger problem. I have entered the tomb area of level 7, the one you get to by carrying the chrystal shard. A boulder fell behind me and seems to be be blocking my path. I have found a number of secret doors in this area, but none lead me out. I don't have a transport scroll and can't used magic. Now what?!?

Without a rock hammer you'll have to continue onward. There is a way out, but I think it is to the prison area to the northwest and to the lava pit.
And yes, I, too, only found two or three pieces of thread in the whole game and I left them in Goldthirst's camp. When I got the scales, I went crazy looking for that stuff. I knew how usefull (not necessary!) they are later in the game.

Yep. Keep searching for secret doors in the tombs. They'll lead you out eventually.
There were three pieces of spider web on the first level... and only three if I recall correctly.

Well, I'm out! Thanks for all your help. I'm off to find the webs (wherever I dropped them!). I can only hope I didn't chuck them into the water!

Hello, I've been playing UW1 for years but I could never find what a rotworm was, and so possibly was why I could never get passed level 7. Is anyone able to tell me what a rotworm looks like and where to find one? If you could it would be a great help!

I guess you don't look at your monsters, huh? Rotworms are the brown worms you fight mainly on level 1, and sometimes on lower levels. They are essentially the weakest enemy in the game, and are the ONLY ones to leave corpses. But you shouldn't need rotworm stew to finish the game, the dragonskin boots you get only make it easier... but aren't 100% nesscessary (sp?). Though you will be required to run across some lava rivuuts on level 7 to get to a certain required area. It'll just hurt more without the boots <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
But shouldn't be totally deadly...
