So...what is the basis of the unwritten rule that the hub design should look all business-like, instead of hinting, at a glance, that it's a site about gaming as it relates to LGS and LGS legacy fans?

Um, that sounds like you want to force people to use the new hub by taking away the main forum index - replacing an efficient and easy-to-use system with a more complex one that will probably be harder to use... for no reason?
Is that what you got out of that? My wording must be atrocious to create a negative reaction based on a crap exaggeration of my intent. :(
"Force"? "Harder to use"?
Irrelevant with a proper redesign. Irrelevant.
"No reason"?
WHAT? Since I DON'T want to force a visitor to do something unnecessary or more complex, and my reasoning is to eliminate a step for the returning users, of course there's a reason, and it's not what you assumed.
Eliminate redundancy. Make the hub a place that isn't sadly skipped because it's lost meaning to returning users. But then, this is now me defending myself, not telling our Admins how to run the show. Ideas. I don't give a damn if the
very ideas are rejected. :sly:

If the main sections of the forum index were given their own pages, and the current index was eliminated...
I understood this as eliminating (

Upon reading it again, that's not quite what you meant. :)

I removed the frame around the items and I tried to make clear how those news boxes would work. Also color coding. (Thief = Orange, System Shock = Blue, etc.)
Functionally color coding systems are cool. Aesthetically they tend to look messy. Not sure about it.

I've never really understood the theme colors of the forums and frontpage being what they are - Games like Thief, System Shock, Bio Shock, Fallout, Oblivion, Underword and Deus Ex don't shout "white, lavender and gray" to me really.
You don't play a forum, you read it. Dark text on a light background is a hell of a lot easier on the eyes than light text on a black background.

Eek, christ, Kolya, far better first time around. I like the content filtering system.
Kolya on 16/2/2009 at 02:25
I know it looks shitty with the color coding. But I think it needs some way to distinguish the topics. Ideas?
ZylonBane on 16/2/2009 at 02:29
OH GOD CHRIST WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED WHEN I CLICKED ON THAT IMAGE?!?
Kolya on 16/2/2009 at 02:32
Sheesh, for days no one says a thing and I meddle along giving updates and then everyone suddenly swears to Jesus...
Tell me what you want, what you like about it and what not. The appearance is not set in any way, most of all I'm concerned with functionality atm.

I was talking about what is apparently the upgraded forum's attached image viewer.
Good god, I smegging hate those things. My operating system of choice already provides its own windowing system, so dear TTLG, please don't try to half-ass one in Javascript, KTHX.

Well, for suggestions it's not ttlg forums specifically - is it? There seems to be confusion here.
Also, there's a mass of empty space next to the logo that looks prime for the main forum index listing - commchat/gengaming/thief/teg/system/dx whatever.
Also that text on the right for selecting content is pretty bland and also leaves tons of unused space below.
