I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Dell computer is dealing to buy out Alienware computers.
A marriage that bodes ill for the quality of Alienware in the future I think.

Dell HAVE Alienware according to gamasutra.
For an "undisclosed" sum.

For people that are honestly incapable of building their own computers, I can understand this kind of thing. When people start to get interested in high-end hardware, though, I can't really forgive them for going with Alienware. If they're interested in high-end hardware, they should take the time to learn how to plug simple shit into receptacles on a motherboard and not be so intimidated by electronics.
So, while I can understand someone buying a Dell, I can't really stand people buying Alienware. In fact, there are many good reasons to buy Dell. In the case of mass buying, such as for a college campus, it is favorable to go with such a company. You can send them back if they don't work, and by the time your service contract expires, it'll be time to get new machines anyway.
I'm sorry. I'm posting on hydrocodone/guiafenessin cough syrup, and it's REALLY killing my attention span here.
votequimby!

they are the microsoft of the computer hardware world.
i was actually thinking of getting an alienware pc later this year; now i'm SURE i will.

I wasn't dissing Dell. They're great desktop systems.
For gaming, however, you'll want a more custom solution. Going Alienware is half-assed, lazy. An abomination in the eyes of the geek gods. How could one call one's self a gamer?

Willfully so. A philosophical question -- is that better or worse?

I dunno man. We don't all have time to learn how to do this stuff, how to select bits, how to put them in and so on. We throw money at systems like Alienware so that we can have decent rigs that at least look like something. Why should you have to know what the detailed specs are (beyond "This is a Jedi machine") to be a gamer? I thought "gamer" referred to someone who plays games.
