Haha, what? No. I'm 'depriving' (lol) myself because, again, why should I pay money I don't have for a remake of a mod I don't like? Since Briscoe did not see fit to answer my question, I have no reason to spend my money.
Why is this so hard to understand?

It's perfectly understandable to wonder why you should pay for something you're unlikely to like. Turning it into a pissy question in a public forum makes you look like a dick. Quite honestly, what sort of an answer did you expect? That Briscoe would change
Dear Esther completely - not just work on the graphics and sound, not just add subtitles, both of which you knew would be the case, but change it into something it isn't? That he'd come to your place, present you with a free copy and fellate you?

No.
I was just asking what the remake brought to the table other than OOH PRETTY GRAPHICS that made it better than the original mod. Love how people are putting so much stock into things I didn't actually say.
We're doing "TTLG Is Fucking Thick" month a little early this year, aren't we?

Well, an expanded story, new areas to explore, and yes, prettier graphics. Insanely prettier graphics. And a re-recorded and expanded score, which is a big draw for me. I really liked the music and the composer who dunnit.

In a similar spirit, I couldn't care less if it gets called a game or not. It's like arguing about musical genres. in other words, stupid, annoying and only of interest to wierd people who can only cope with the kind if rigid definitions that only work for categorising batteries or Lego bricks.
Or like discussing the taxonomy of extinct reptiles; in other words, obscure, puzzling, and only of interest to wierd people who can only cope with the kind of rigid definitions that work for categorising birds or elephant poo. After all, a lizard is a lizard is a chicken.

Deth, when you walk down the street, do you walk into every single store and ask the shopkeeper why you should buy his products even though you aren't out shopping and don't need anything?
Or does that only apply to games?

It's a remake. That brings to the table exactly what it implies. Which means it's going to be prettified and expanded upon in varying degrees, but without changing the structure and framework that was there to begin with.
If you didn't like the content of the original, a remake of the same subject matter isn't going to change your opinion. Given that this mod is
all content and exploration, if you didn't get it to begin with because you couldn't understand what it was about past the island landscapes (and by extension, the symbolism in them), then you have a valid complaint. That complaint is being addressed with subtitles; the remaining question is, 'What justifies me spending the $$$ on this thing if I don't like it?'
Well, if you don't like it, you don't spend the money on it. However, if you didn't understand it at first and now
want to, but want to know if it's still worth the dosh -- a) we don't know how much it's going to cost yet and b) the rest of your answer's already there in the RPS post and the Q&A on Briscoe's blog -- Briscoe spent a year or more redoing the graphics and making them sufficiently mindblowing, the music's being redone, they're trying to add more exposition in places.
This is stuff I'm sure you already knew even before you made that post. People are miffed at you asking that question nonetheless; and while it's understandable you have a question about why you should pay for something that was free, the answer's there and is as plain as day -- either you accept the answer, or you don't.

Actually I think this is exactly what the internet is. People bitch about everything, for any stupid reason or no reason at all. What's rare is that the makers bother to reply. I think you have to be a special kind of bitcher to make them feel self-conscious enough to say something, even if mocking. Reminds me that there was a time where Ken Levine actually felt the need to come here and justify Bioshock to us after some of the fiercer criticisms. But that didn't last long. Briscoe is still talking like he's one of us. But once you go commercial, you're not.
Or to turn Sulpher's last sentence around, Briscoe can take comments, but if he's going to open up to Q&A, I think he either has to accept that people are going to inevitably bitch, or he doesn't and tries to make a cute joke out of it.

you lawyers and your devil's advocates

P.S. If I'm misremembering and you're not a lawyer, you'd be a damn good one.
