Really not sure what to say about this. It's strangely affecting. A radio play about loss using HalfLife2's Source Engine. I only wish I had hands.

Yes. It's great. Don't run children and if you don't like it after 10 minutes turn it off and go back to another game because it's not meant for you.

Oh good.
I'm not going to feign as much surprise as a lot of people are in those comments because I knew it was only a matter of time before interactive fiction would get a foothold into the 3D engines. My feeling is closer to "It's about time. Can we get this thing established as a genre now, so it's not perceived as a freak FPS tangent...". Also, it's probably just as well it will be a genre exclusive to the homemade/indie scene, like contemporary IF.
Over the last few years I've scripted a few vignettes in this vein for Doom3/Darkmod I hope to get working; much more IF heavy than an FM, and getting away from the old (Thief) settings; but still a little adversarial gameplay, in addition to traditional IF fare. This kind of thing is the cutting edge, IMO.

you probably wont finish it

Yeah, it's incredible and loooonnnnggg overdue (seriously, it's the kind of thing people should have realised 3D engines are great for ages ago [as demagogue already said it turns out]) but it is not a game, so be warned. More of this kind of thing pls
That said, from comments I've seen about it, Dear Esther is a highly effective goon-test.

If I'm not mistaken, they said on RPS that the creator of "Dear Esther" was working on a new version. It might be worth waiting a bit. (Then again, it might never be finished, in which case you might wait forever.)

So it's a lot like The Path?

Guillermo del Toro recently talked about how gaming will eventually see its Citizen Kane. I doubt that we'll reach that plateau with either super linearity and/or ultra heavy scripting. As much as Designers like to try, the ingredients that work for film and written literature just never seem to gel properly.
