It's quite literally a far cry from Dead Rising.

Superb cinematic trailer.
The RPS comments also prompted a fun game -- mute the trailer music, and try to find the best replacement you can. Much more fun than it sounds.
faetal: So... you're telling us that the Dead Island team at Techland are situated within cooee of the Dead Rising team at Capcom? (A slightly arbitrary interpretation, but I can't come up with another way to assign a game a single physical location).

It was just a glib little bon mot in a "say what you see" style. The visuals brought to mind Far Cry and the weapon mechanic (lots of melee which eventually wear and need replacing, leaving you with a "fuck I need new weapons" vibe most of the time) made me think of Dead Rising.

What really surprises me is the fact that it's a first person game, I thought console games were all supposed to have a third person mode. If this game works I hope that everyone thinking that Thief 4 requires a third person view (EM included) will gently hang themselves somewhere in Canada. All jokes aside, it's a ballsy decision and I commend it because it should bring a different, visceral vibe to the gameplay in comparison with the likes of Dead Rising.
And it looks great (nice trailer too).
We've yet to see any gameplay screenshot though...

Good Lord! There is no way that the game will match that trailer. That was... wow. Best trailer I've seen in long time and I like them to have at least a flash of gameplay in them.
Zombies are so in fashion at the moment and I wonder when it's going to burn out. There is that other isometric RPG/survival zombie game on the way too. What next, a zombie MMO? Yeah, not that browser based thing but a modern 3rd person MMO could work.
Anyways, looking forward to more info about this.

I started watching that thinking 'there is literally no way anyone can make me give a shit about zombies again', but that was actually really fucking good. No idea if the game will be, but at least someone involved with the project has a good sense of visual narrative. Thats a good sign.

You knew it would happen, IGN resequenced the vid so you can watch it chronologically now. Kills the cool effect of the original of course, but still interesting.

(btw, I love the "Lost" vibe on the trailer overall)
