OK, so I figured if I already broke my "no purchase of Steam-infested games" rule for DX:HR, I might as well get some other games I missed because of that, and got Darksiders. So I start Steam in online mode to install it, and...
I notice DX:HR is downloading 32.2 megabytes.
Thing is, I specifically made sure to deactivate updates for the game, and I even made a smug little comic about it.
SO WHAT THE FUCK
EDIT: Oh, and mothra, your method for bypassing the initial patching doesn't work. I activated the serial for Darksiders, went into the settings for the game and it seemed to be set already to "do not automatically update this game", but the options were not active. When the installation ended, it automatically changed to "always keep this game up to date" and started downloading.

well, you bought it directly on steam I presume. And not the original release version in retail. so you will always get the latest revision.

Of course not, I got the retail version.

then I stand corrected. It worked with STALKER but did not do it recently. STALKER was the only game where holding off a patch made sense - for mods.

Funny. So a game that punishes people for blind faith in updates gets forced updates. Valve just went from Illuminati to MJ12.

And everyone went from "please shut up vH" to "shut the hell up vH."

I know you have this crazy quest to destroy Van Helsing through the power of petty sniping at his posts but stop doing this
Do you see now?

Maybe I was a bit hasty
