Feature Additions:
- The Enter and Numpad-Enter keys can now be bound to game actions in the keyboard control menu.
Ah, finally! I was really surprised when I tried to bind Enter to something and learned it wouldn't let you. You'd figure that would be a key that a lot of people would use...

Hilarious! Now put some more humour into your trolling next time.
@Jason/Eva: It's probably Steam just acting wonky on me.
Anyway, I had to shift SSAO down to Normal after the patch because the game actually slowed down and stuttered with it on high. It used to be silky smooth on High before past the initial stuttering after a level load, but now... oh bah. I can't see much of a difference with SSAO on High<->Normal anyway.

SSAO mostly benefits from games using dynamic lightning which there is none of in DXHR. that's why it is a rather useless addition to the engine.

HR does have dynamic lighting. Real-time SSAO doesn't make much sense without dynamic lighting because if it's just baked lightmaps, then the SSAO could be baked in as well to save processor cycles instead of being generated real-time. The dynamic lighting in HR is interspersed with static lights a la Fear 2, so it's easy to assume it's all baked in, but it's very much there. Pretty sure it's a deferred engine too, because there's a lot of lights in some of these environments. Not bad at all, considering EM was working with Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider engine, last seen in TR: Underworld and LolCAT or whatever the damn acronym for that last Lara Croft game was. They must have retooled the engine quite a bit.
Anyhow, I did a quick comparison run through with SSAO on Normal/High and I can't, for the life of me, see any difference beyond High causing weird juddering. Even the jittery artifacts in the 'shadow areas' under objects with SSAO when you pan your view around the screen are the same, though ostensibly High SSAO has four times the resolution of Normal. That's pretty weird.

It's on the wrong side of the keyboard! :)

dxhr has dynamic lightning ? you can walk under, over, beneath lights, create smoke, gas and explosions and NONE of the lights ANYWHERE react to it. there are not even proper shadows cast on you or NPCs or the environment.... if it is in there they sure know how to hide it completely.
Sulphur on 17/9/2011 at 10:30
Yup, it does. I just came across an area with a swinging light that causes shadows to sway on a drawer/whatever under it. Like I said, they've interspersed it with static lights, so it's hard to see.
