I have to back mothra up on this one.

Huh, never thought of this. So how does it work exactly, do I start the installation program, punch in the serial number, then cancel the installation and go to the game's settings in Steam?
mothra on 13/9/2011 at 07:46
i did not cancel the installation, during it running the game appears on the steam-games-list and is in the status "update paused"...since it is still installing. during that time I could already access the options and turn "autoupdate" off.

I'm not really familiar with Steamworks as DRM, but face it folks, DRM isn't going away.
It already beats the shit out of GFWL. I go to play Bioshock 2. SecuROM bitches, because my BS2 disc isn't in the drive. FUCK THE DISC YOU MORONS!! I gave GFWL my unique serial already.
WTF do I still need the disc for? WTF do I need SecuROM for? Do I need to insert my Original Windoze Vista disc every fucking time I reboot my computer? NO, so why do I need to insert a fucking disc just to run a stupid fucking game, when I've already uploaded the serial?
Yeah, so I have to have the Steam client active in order to play HR. It's much more user-friendly than GFWL. Fuck the disc. Fuck Microsoft Points for DLC purchases. Fuck Microsoft, with a rusty Husqvarna dipped in habanero sauce, in general.

No surprises.

Installed the game thru Steam; Eidos gives you a gazillion little ad sheets with the retail game & each one has a different registration code on it - was a little confused at first trying to figure out which one to use to register the damned game. But the game installed smoothly, though there was never any prompt regarding patches.
My original question seems moot.

No surprises.
I know you have this crazy quest to destroy Van Helsing through the power of petty sniping at his posts but stop doing this

Can we at least get vH to quit whining about Steam every 5 seconds?
