I had long ago given up DDfix as not working on my Radeon 4650HD since the ATI Drivers seemed to break it at some point - now I find this is not the case.....
But I was poncing around in Dromed today for the first time in years, and noticed that it was actually running in DDfix mode ! - nicely proportioned menu screen, instant scrolls etc etc, and won't actually run the normal v1.18 Dromed at all (unable to set screen mode or something).
So my question is obviously this - why does DDfix work for me in Dromed and not in T2 itself ?
I have even tried setting up a clean T2 installation on a separate drive to test DDfix and T2 with no luck.
But all I did with Dromed was at some point download the pre-hacked Dromed.exe and nothing else.
My supposedly pre-hacked Thief2.exe from the same source just causes the game to crash when the mission starts. I say supposedly because the FIRST occurrence of DDRAW.DLL is still there, and there were no preexisting occurrences of the string DDFIX.DLL - so I edited it in.

Could crash on mission start actually be a problem with movies and not the .exe itself? We've seen folks in that situation here before.

The movies play okay (i've only tested with OM Mission 1), it's when the part where the engine should display the actual game that is crashes.
The only versions of DDfix I ever got to work were the old ones before bloom and post processing etc came along (basically the ones that just had the core fix, and fast access to readables), but even those don't work for me now.
Yesterday when I tried it again on another clean install it told me I need to install DirectX 7 (!)

What version of Windows are you using?
If you are running 7 are you running the game in administrator mode?
Can you give more detailed information on the crash?
