You can't apply the widescreen fix or DDFix to a vanilla Thief2.exe, since with the standard Safedisc protection, the .exe itself doesn't contain any useful data. You need to use a fixed exe.

Uh ?????? What do you mean ????
What is 'fixed' in the 'fixed EXE' that Bikerdude linked me up with ??
I thought that 'fixed' meant the DDFIX had already been applied ??
So all this time I have been running a bog standard EXE and not a pre-cracked one ? So basically what it has been failing on all this time is still the MULTICORE issue - because nothing was applied to this 'fixed' EXE ?
This is strange, because out of desperation I tried running DDFIX and Widescreen on the 'Fixed EXE' - it told me it would not do it because it is the wrong filesize (that's why I thought it had already been cracked).
I'm curious about WHY I need DDFIX at all ? If I completely DON'T use it - and just use the widescreen fix on it's own - then T2 runs in 1920x1080 resolution. What do I need DDFIX for ?

You need a decrypted version of Thief2.exe (e.g. a NoCD) for any of the patches (DDFix, widescreen, dual core) to work. I have no idea what Bikerdude did or didn't send you. The files linked in the thread that I linked are patched with NoCD, dual-core fix and DDFix.
You need DDFix because Thief looks better with it?

I don't mean this argumentatively but, how does it look better ? The 32bit texture thing ?? Antriscopic filtering ??

OK that does sound useful :thumb:
So can someone tell me the procedure for taking the fixed EXEs from the forum link and making them work with DDFIX and Widescreen.bat.
IE in which order do I implement each of them. I've followed the instructions on the forum to the letter,
1) I HEX edited the second entry of DDRAW.DLL to DDFIX.DLL, changed the CAM.cfg and DDFIX.cfg screen rez's to match.
2) Tried to implement Widescreen, but it tells me that the file is the wrong size.
The only time I got widescreen working was when I used the EXE from the T2 v1.18 patch on my CD, no NOCD's or anything.

Oh f**k !! I was thinking back to what I typed earlier and realized how I messed up DDFIX - I should have edited the FIRST occurrence.
Er, okay, sorry to all of you for wasting your time, and for all the help you have given (damn this humble pie ! :-) )
EDIT - is it abit unstable with TGA stuff like lightbeams ?? I seem to still get crashes in rooms with lots of moonbeams (like in the Hammer Cathedral in "The Night Before Xmas")

OK, it's kind of working. I can play FM's from NEW, but if I go back later and load quicksaves then it always crashes.
Quicksaves load fine inside the same game session, they won't reload if I have exited Thief and come back later.
The same quicksaves load perfectly if I swap my Thief2 EXE back to one without DDFIX.
Also many FMs refuse to load altogether (eg Bathory II), and the game often crashes when TGA textures are involved (as I mentioned somewhere else).
Dromed is also semi-fuc*ed in that it won't load saved .MIS files I have made in my DDFIXED Dromed - it wrongly throws up the TGA error trap (I have no TGA's in my FM), I click CANCEL and it crashes.
Maybe DDFIX just is not suited to Radeon cards with XP64 ??
EDIT - no I can't play. At some point ATI's monthly updated Catalyst Drivers broke compatibility.
