Ok, another weird problem. I finally got Thief Gold mostly working (still having problems with HW Acceleration, but I'm not that worried about that.) Now working on Thief 2. It works just fine without any mods, but I sort of wanted to install NTEX textures (I love the way they look,) and the Bloom effects from DDFix. The problem is that when DDFix is installed (and it is required by NTEX even if I wasn't after the Bloom effects,) my game crashes as soon as I go to the "Load" screen.
Now, here is where things get a little weird. If I click on something else "New Game", or "Options" first, then go back to the main menu, I can go to the "Load" screen just fine. Some missions then load and don't seem to have any problems, some will crash as soon as they are loaded, and some will load then crash after a short period. Also, when I go to the "Options" screen and mouse over the "Done" button, I get a rectangle of smudge over it, but only over the "Done" button, the others are fine. The same thing happens over all the buttons on the "New Game" screen (except the 3 difficulty buttons - just tested to confirm.)
I can have any combination of the other mods installed without any issues that I can discover. It's only when DDFix is installed that I have a problem. I tried downgrading the DDFix version, Started with 1.5.12 (beta I know.) All of the 1.5.x's had the same problem. Couldn't find a 1.4.x version. 1.3.11 (the only one I could find,) had the same problem. At this point I ran out of ones I could find. TafferPatcher allowed me to install 1.1.1 and it didn't have the problem, but it killed the fog, didn't offer Bloom, and I couldn't get NTEX to work with it. I did a search to find a 1.2.x version, but without any luck.
As I final weirdity, when I first installed Thief 2, I then installed DDFix manually, ran the NTEX installer (couldn't find a manual install version,) it ran just fine. I loaded several missions, never had any graphics messing up on the menus, etc.... I had to go to the store, came back, and was going to load the game to take a look at how things look "now" before installing the Enhancement Pack (sorry, decided I don't really care for it.) Only it was at THIS point that the problem appeared. Yes, I tried restarting my computer, running Thief Gold then running Thief 2, attaching (and detatching,) my external HDD. Can't think of anything else that was going on at the time. I didn't start or stop any programs between leaving for the store and tring to run Thief 2 again. All I did was lock my station, then unlock it when I got back.
Right now, I'm using TafferPatcher to install everything except DDFix and the new textures (DDFix required for the textures I want.) And I can get by with that, but would really like to get DDFix working. If anyone has any ideas, they would be appreciated, I tried everything I could think of. If you need any more info from me, just let me know.
p.s. Does anyone know if DDFix is still being worked on or not?
edit: Ooops :) Running WinXP SP3, SB X-Fi Extreme, ATI Radeon HD 4650, 2G RAM, Intel 2.4Ghz Dual Core CPU

Check that the graphics driver is Catalyst 9.4 or earlier. Later ones have problems with Windows XP.

To address some of that:
* Texture replacement (=NTEX support) was added in 1.3.0.
* Fog was fixed in 1.4.0.
* Bloom was added in 1.5.0.

Not actively.

Ok, now I feel stupid :( The first thing I did when I had problems with Thief Gold was to downgrade my graphics driver. When even the oldest that I could use with my card failed, I just went back to the latest and moved on.
So, what do I do when T2 starts crashing? I just skip right over that step for some strange reason :( Ok, now they are both working fine, except the Audio HW acceleration in Thief Gold, which is still marked changeable but won't change :( Still digging on that one, but it's a low priority.
p.s. Didn't I post this in this forum in the first place?? It's marked moved, did I post it somewhere else by mistake?? Sorry :(

I read that post before, but didn't use it because I was concentrating on the HW acceleration, I wasn't even getting to the point where EAX would be enabled or not. Decided to try it anyway and, thanks, it works :) Not sure if I'm going to enable EAX or not, some missions sound a little strang with it. Have to keep looking. But for now, all my Thief installs (T1, TG, T2, T2X, & T3,) are working just great. Thanks for everyone's help :)
