On the same topic though of Dreamcast. I've often wondered what it would take to play either flavors of System Shock on it.
Since we're talking hypotheticals, I'd say the best console for
Shock would be the Wii.

It's been 9+ years since anyone had to put up with those constraints in Doom 2.
Really, has one even tried to visit EA Mythic to hunt through their Origin archives for the SS1 source code?
My point was you are still not comparing like with like. The newer versions of doom2 are just that, NEW!!!!!
The really cool feature of the original System Shock was that it could run a resolutions higher than any other game of its era. IT also had the ability to look up and down, as well as lean. The original doom2 engine couldn't do slopped surfaces well (if at all) or have anything a room above or below where you stood. It was horribly limited (I did try and make a few maps in those days)
They did do one thing good though, they release the source code. Without that, there is little the dev/mod community can do

The people at WCNEWS were allowed to go to EA Mythic over the summer and back up all the remaining Origin archives. This would include all sorts of games besides the Wing Commander series. Last I heard, their still in the process of going through the backed up data and identifying what is actually there. Understandably, this could take a while. I did hear awhile ago that they had found data related to Bioforge+ in their digging.
It is worth mentioning that the chances of finding the System Shock 1 source code, let along figuring out what game the any code that is found is for, is rather slim. Origin was just the publisher; so while I can see them having copies of the gold masters, I'm not too sure about the source code.

I'd love to see a total remake of SS1 on the SS2 engine.
Hell, it'd be theoretically possible on ShockEd. If you were satanically good.
