Well sure but why complain in a thread about a using a performance car for the purpose of high performance?
To respond to your post (and shugs' for that matter) I dare say.

silly performance that you can't [use].
Says who?
My trip to New Orleans and back at roughly 100mph says otherwise, ;) and that's in a measly low end Benz sedan.
If you can afford a car like that, a radar detector and the occasional ticket are chump change. If I could swing a real sports car (oh god, the Mercedes McLaren), you'd better believe I'd hit 150mph on a regular basis.

That's not what high performance cars are about though is it (that would be more to do with breaking and acceleration and not having suspension cornering). You can do a tonne in a mini without it breaking into a sweat. If you'd picked a Merc a few models up the spec list you'd be doing 150 and have space to carry a chauffeur - and with only minimal back ache to boot. Talking of boots...
See, I'd wager you present car is far better suited to getting you to N.O and back than a DB9 or any of the other cars doing laps round the airfield. There's a good chance your Mercedes won't break down halfway for example. But then, I'd also suggest you'd be better off on a train, train journeys are really quite cool. I drove to Cornwall and back last year (700 miles to your 4000), which was frankly a bit much - closest thing to a lobotomy I've ever had.

You've never driven that fast for that long then, I take it. ;)
Do you know how often you have to nimbly slow and accelerate to get around traffic once you break 100mph? You barely break free of one pack of cars before you're coming up on the next one. And not many people pull over to the right lane for you, no matter how fast you appear in their rear view.
Never mind that feeling that your car is going to lift off the road at about 120.
Yeah, a high perf car is definitely not wasted, even on overzealous highway driving.

You seem to misapprehend the quality of such cars as the DB9, it's not built as a pure-speed race car like say a Ferrari Enzo. They're GT supercars, GT meaning "Gran Turismo", and they're comfortable like you wouldn't believe. (Although I've never driven one, I've been in a DB9 and it's fantastic)
The
Top Gear episode featuring the race between a DB9 and a train is a perfect example

Good god man, Aston's aren't reliable enough to go touring in. Perish the thought.
This isn't 1997 any more, you know.

Yeah, I used to crack 100mph in my old Honda too. Trust me when I tell you it's different when you can sustain it without your car breaking a sweat.
