Double Fine needing money again, eh?
I hope it will be done more tastefully than that horrendous Monkey Island Special Edition.

Game studios always need money. Programmers are expensive. From what I've heard, an average (skills-wise) programmer will cost the employer 8500$ each month and DF is in San Francisco, which is the most expensive city in the US (Silicon Valley, duh).

Perhaps I should replay DotT when it comes out, because I remember enjoying it way less than Monkey Island at the time. I'd love a Zak McKracken remaster, though, perhaps largely because it was my first graphics adventure. I did play some Maniac Mansion when it came out, but I guess at the time my English wasn't quite up to it yet.

I cant believe Evaunit only registered on 2007, seems like he has been here forever.

One potential issue is that there are quite a number of scenes based on U.S. history, which might not make sense to folks elsewhere. I certainly remember feeling that I was only vaguely aware of what some of them were about... but I also wasn't completely in the dark (and my knowledge of world history is awful) so I wouldn't let this put you off -- if I've heard of the references, there's a pretty decent chance that anyone else would have as well.
I guess YMMV, but in general I'd thoroughly recommend DOTT. When I finally got around to playing it (in 2006), I thought it was right up there with the best of the LucasArts stable.

@Shadowcat: I think that for me it's more my general issues with comedy. At least with comedies that tell a story, I quickly get bored unless there are strong characters that aren't just used as punchlines. Monkey Island had pretty strong and even relatively complex characterisation for the most part, whereas the DotT characters never became more for me than the stereotypes they embody. I couldn't tell you much about them other than that Bernard is a nerd and Hoagie is a metalhead, and that's about it. Monkey Island's characters weren't Dostoevsky, but there was more to them, and I simply respond better to this than to the more anarchic comedy of DotT. Which is also one reason why Grim Fandango, for all its faults, is the one where I'm really excited about the remaster.
