Runs fine when it's on but it keeps flipping to the desktop and back. I can see a new alert in the taskbar every time it does it but everything slows down so much I can't select the alerts to see what they are.
Company of Heroes does this too (both Relic games) but only sometimes and only ever once per session, because in that case I can see the alert and it's something about reverting to Windows 7 Basic Colours - I say no and close the alert.
Can't do that with DoW2 though. I'm downloading the latest drivers for my gfx card right now to see if it makes any difference.
Anyone else experienced this?

It's never happened to me in Vista. Have you tried disabling the Aero theme before launching it? If it's the 'Basic Colours' thing on CoH, it's probably the same in DoWII, and if you have Aero off than Basic Colours will already be on so the game won't try to turn it on, thus activating the warning. IIRC there's also an option either in the shortcut or in task manager after the game is running to tell it not to try to turn on Basic Colours when running in full screen. In Vista that's actually on by default, which would explain why I've never seen it (the only reason I know about it is because I had to set Red Faction: Guerrilla to use it).

I turned that Aero off and it seemed ok. Ish.
Kept flipping to a black screen and back without affecting gameplay, and then a new error message!
Hard disk failure!
So I checked all drives and there was no problem. Then DoW2 crashes to desktop and the Relic error reporter starts up, takes a while and finally submits.
And what does it say - that I should turn settings down! Wtf Relic!? I ran the benchmarker, lowered the specs to what you said and in any case my machine far, far exceeds the recommended specs.
Fuck you Relic, fuck you.
