a bus ad like the one promising hellfire and damnation to non-believers would be enough to knock some of them off that fence.
I don't think so. But a public discourse that's being solely ruled by Christian adverts could make some people falsely believe that this is what everyone thinks about the matter. And *this* could really knock people of the fence.
Actually that's still somewhat unlikely since bus adverts aren't anyone's only means of information about public opinion. But I don't like those selfrighteous Christian ads either, so I would welcome a different opinion in this realm as well.

That's the last time I help you with your reading problems. From here on you're on your own.
EDIT: Sorry for coming off so harsh, it's nothing personal. I just still cannot believe that TTLGeers would fly into this blindly without a minimum of source checking. The URL's in OP's pic after all.
Too many open tabs already.

ugh
when are people going to realize that pseudo-scientific reasoning behind the systematic murder of millions of people is not the same thing as actual science
Here's an actual quote from the guy who made expelled
"Love of God and compassion and empathy leads you to a very glorious place, and science leads you to killing people,"(

We know it's a photoshop. Or at least, I presume we all do.
This doesn't change the fact that a great deal of people in the OP's link are in favour of the proposed add, and of those who aren't, a great deal only oppose it for tactical reasons.
Hence the bitching.
EDIT: Here's to not reading the second page before posting ... oops ...

Tactical reasons would be the only worthwhile reasons to not run it. It is true, after all.

And why would the faith of good god-fearing Christians be shaken by a bus advert?
It's a public discourse. It happens all the time.
Well it was a rather large bus.
[Edit]...wasn't important.

Yeah right ... lucky us atheists are delivering the world from the unholy stereotypes, narrow mindedness, and alienation that come with religion ...
I bet the plane comment would go down real well with the average sunday church goer, who (
http://www.hoover.org/publications/policyreview/3447051.html) gives a great deal more to society on average then his secular counterpart.
Unfortunately, fundamentalism comes in all forms. I worry that atheism is developing it's own fundamentalist wing too. This add is written by people who can't see the forest for the trees.

Well put, Chade.
And while I don't disagree with Dawkins' message, he reminds me too much of Ann Coulter--gaining a following through sensationalism just to sell books.
Vivian on 3/2/2009 at 22:28
Dawkin's a self-important prick, as far as I can see, who has allowed his crusade to shove the bloody obvious as far down peoples throats as he can to overshadow his quite brilliant career in evolutionary biology. I suppose having a lot of ignorant people deny the very existence of a fundamental phenomenon you have spent your life characterising can be a bit taxing, but you don't have to go overboard with it.

No, that's just the mentality of people. They desperately need to grasp onto to something to validate their belief, or disbelief, so much so that they can be suckered into attending worthless seminars, or buying books that all say the same thing (just with different commas) instead of thinking for themselves.
