Hmm. I'm having trouble following that, you seem to be suggesting that mention of day and night is some handwavy reference to a vague amount of time passing, in which light and darkness were created and identified?
That's pretty much exactly what I'm saying about the word 'yom' - handwavy is an excellent description. If it were intended as a scientific record then we would expect more, yes? But it's not, and doing so is only going to waste a lot of time arguing something (one way or the other) that simply can't be argued from that particular passage.

Well here's the passage
"Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. "
Light is created as a state different from dark.. and it seems to read as pretty clearly assigning the name "day" to that state. If we go the way you suggested and say day and night refers to unspecified periods of time, it doesn't make sense. :(

it doesn't make sense.
If you only take one lesson away from this little study of Biblical creationist theory, this is the one to take.

There are two different uses of the same word "darkness" and two different uses of the same word "day".
It's dark everywhere...how long has this darkness been-- Nevermind. What you're doing now is more exciting.
Let there be "light_bright"!
Holy--!
Yes, it is good. But now everything is illuminated to the same level. Let's put in some contrast. Light over here, shadows over there. Ahh! I will call the light "Day" and also let a cycle of "morning and evening" be called a "day", as well.
But, of course, at the end of the morning and evening, we will all settle into the comfort of our own beliefs, including beliefs that each of us is more correct than another, as our species has done for millennia. Round and rouund, morning and evening, day after day, for thousands of years and thousands of days. :laff:

What SD said.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm trying to hang this jello. Anybody got a level?

Well, he's here, but he's a bit pissed off and I haven't got to meet him yet. Apparently he thought he was just coming in to talk about this big nerve-thing that giraffes have running from their neck to wrap around their heart (something to do with pressure sensing, I'd hazard a guess) and convergent evolution of retractable claws, but they keep getting him to talk about stuff he has no idea about. Like biomechanics, I guess. Anyway, he's having lunch with us so maybe I can get a few words in.
No sign of jigging and/or pelvic thrusts yet, Muzman.
That's a damn shame. Maybe it's because you didn't Bring da Bling yourself first?
(He should be aware of that thing anyway. It was supposed to be viral marketing for that 'Expelled' nonsense. But it kinda backfired as the people who made it are indifferent to the argument and the clip was wholeheartedly embraced by the atheist biologist types.)

Religions ... entertaining, in a sadistic way, but oh-so hollow and disgusting :/ Have to say, thank god i did not grow up in the midst on religious retards.

I LOVE that guy! He's hysterical and usually right. I've never seen anyone say, "Shove it up your ass," in a nicer, British kind of way. :thumb:
p.s. Dethtoll I keep getting the feeling that we've both been down the same sordid musical path and lived to tell about it...
