It's Hermeneutics. And I wish all the best to any religion that embraces science to gain knowledge about the world without neglecting spirituality.

No no, we got electrolytes to make us smarter! That's what plants crave.
I Can't help but comment on this bringing up memories on one of the worst movies ive ever seen. and yes I know it was supposed to be dumb, but still...
Anyways I'd give that sign top notch marks for creativity, and medium for taste. It should be lower, but I loved it.

Enough of this 'the bible doesn't deny evolution' bullshit. Greek and Hermeneutics 101 folks.
Something I've wondered but couldn't really be arsed to find out for myself: How many of the other fundamental theories of science are in direct conflict with the bible? I'm guessing the big-bang theory can kinda be accommodated, but what about quantum theory? The energy/mass linkage? Plate tectonics? I mean, if the general public gave as much of a shit about continental history as they seem to about organic history, would it be possible to produce tracts from the bible which denounce tectonic plate 'theory' as heretical?

If your meeting with Dawkins doesn't go exactly like (

Ha, that's brilliant! Maybe I should show him that as an icebreaker?

Eh...honestly, evolution is the only real biggie. Big bang is so vague as to not really matter (you've seen the bumper sticker, "I believe in the big bang. God spoke and 'BANG!'). The thing is that the bible isn't a book of science (and neither is any other decidedly religious text), it's a book of history. Where it does touch on science, it's usually not too bad. There seems to be an early realization that the planet is spherical and revolves around the sun (contrary to popular criticisms by Dawkin's ilk), and there is language in the flood account to accommodate plate tectonics (though the whole universal flood thing is a bit of a bugger, eh?). There's not much about quantum theory and energy/mass, gravity, etc. in any ancient writings, though it seems like the Egyptians and possibly the Assyrian/neo-Assyrian folks had at least a burgeoning suspicion about that stuff. Of course, your creationists are going to retro-engineer every scientific theory possible to fit it with Genesis 1. I've actually heard some pretty interesting stuff about quantum theory accounting for one 'day' equaling millions of years, thereby reconciling creationism with 'old earth' ideas.

You're an atheist religious nut.

Apart from the whole "bats are birds" thing, and the creation of night and day
before the sun.
