But we still have quality coffee all the time, often at Starbucks but other places too (something we didn't do, BTW, before the 1990s).
I'm really sorry to be a dick, but you just can't get quality coffee at Starbucks. They are too large, too weak, and too sweet most of the time. I also really don't understand any use for the myriad blends that Starbucks uses apart from the obvious marketability. Most great coffee shops I have been to have one "roast" and it kicks ass.
Down in Adelaide there is a chain that has started up called Cibo, and unlike any other franchise I have seen they actually manage to power out ace coffee, far better than most cafes. This has raised the standard for coffee sellers everywhere, and there is absolutely no advertising that I can think of that it has used to get this way, it's simply made a name for good drinks.
I'm afraid the whole thing is a bit of a sensitive subject for yours truly because my parents ran what was one of the most popular cafes in Eastern Sydney in the late 90's. It's since been ground out by a Westfield (fuckers) that opened right next door. But I have had the whole coffee thing drilled into me from an early age, even though I don't drink it often you can pick a good coffee from a mile off simply by its colour and aroma.

The trick there is to order a "Short." It's a size that's not on the menu, but they're required to serve it to participate in most cappuccino competitions. The thing with Starbucks' cappuccino's is that they all have pretty much the same amount of espresso in them, and the size difference is largely made up for with milk. So ordering the smallest size gives a much stronger drink.
That's what I'm told about how they make their drinks anyway. I'm not enough of a coffee drinker to really be able to taste the difference, but I never order the large sizes anyway.
I wouldn't go to Starbucks if there were any local coffee shops that didn't cater exclusively to the college, but there aren't.

Coffee ? ... Isn't that where you take some beans and boil them. Then you throw away the beans and drink the hot water ? I still don't quite understand how some guy sold that idea. Oh yeah, it's highly addictive. Ok I get it now.

Yeah. What's with the brutally honest packaging label for the non-dairy creamer: "Whitener"
God, I hope it does more than mask the color! I mean, in a positive way. Well, I take that back--of course it doesn't do anything positive.
