I've had no bandwidth for TTLG for a long time, but Dark Ambient reminded me it was there through a vague connection in my brain...
Recently I have trouble listening to much of my favourite music because it seems like too much is going on (not a bad thing) and it becomes distracting...
I found some interesting dark ambient created by a girl in Russia thanks to bandcamp. (

I've never been much of an ambient music person so I know next to nothing about well known artists, so please provide me with information!

Depends on how dark and how ambient you want. For working bgm, and what you posted, is more in the category of "dark chill ambient" as I think of it...
Alacazam's tracks are the first that came to mind. (

Then there's SomaFM, a net radio station for this kind of stuff: (
http://somafm.com/) or (
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=soma+fm)
Aphex Twin's Stone in Focus is my favorite go-to track like that...
There's certain tracks from Boards of Canada, CMA, Nicholas Szczepsnik, Giraffage, Moderat Milk, Monk on Acid, etc, although those are maybe getting more into "chill ambient".
But I don't think of any of these as really dark. I mean there's some mind-fuck-level dark tracks out there too that really deserve the label of "dark".
Cf. Secret Abuse: (

But I don't know if that's the type of stuff you're looking for. But if it is you can follow the recommended videos for it.

Amon Tobin is really nice to have in the background while working.
Autechre too.

SomaFM is awesome at work or for background music at home. Start by checking out Doomed, Mission Control, Drone Zone, and maybe Deep Space One. Those stations are probably closest to what you're after.
The particular album you linked is closer to "regular" ambient than dark. Dark ambient is usually atonal, industrial, dissonant, or sounds like creepy sci-fi horror music.

I love dark ambient. Lustmord especially. Cycliclaw.com is a label that specialises in the genre, it's a good site to discover new artists

The mood I'm after is probably "sombre" - if it's too industrial it will get on my nerves.
I'm going through the Cryo Chamber label artists. This is bleaker perhaps: (

I've taken note of the somaFM stations as well.
Amon Tobin and Autechre aren't ambient as such, they just have ambient moments.

Yeah, I thought that after I posted, but let it stand anyway, in case there was some room for something outside the spectrum.

I've put Eluder on my list Aja.
This morning I listened to Autechre's Quaristice in the car and it does have one or two ambient areas, so there's some crossover.
I am also trying Steve Roach (
https://steveroach.bandcamp.com/album/the-delicate-forever) - which is not "dark" but it isn't cheesy new age either. Just calm.

Wow. I feel like a kid who just accidentally stumbled into a candy store that's offering free samples! I've always loved this type of music, but never really knew to refer to it as 'dark ambient'. I'm still so busy clicking on the links that you've all provided and am enjoying myself tremendously! So far I especially loved Halgrath's Consecration, Eluder's The Most Beautiful Blue - Brand New Eyes, and Brian Eno's Ambient 4: On Land. Some of the examples remind me of some of the tracks in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which I fell in love with and spent extra time in Jensen's apartment just to hear the background music again and again. Thanks so much for putting a name to music that I've only heard snatches of here and there, but always wished to hear more. My wish has been granted! :thumb: <3
I know. I really have to get out more.
