I've installed it successfully on my XP PC, but when I click on the game icon to play it, a sign pops up which reads:
'You have 0M of free disk space. Thief requires 35M. Thief cannot run.'
This is absolutely absurd, as I have loads of free space. And I've played the game countless time on the same computer.
I don't understand it, why does it say this all of a sudden? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Y'know, (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031#diskspace) there's an entry in the FAQ at the top of the forum about just that.
You might want to get in the habit of checking such things.

I have seen the answer to that FAQ, but I have no idea what it means.
I have opened the USER.CFG and typed in the suggested line, but it won't let me save it, as USER.CFG is read-only.

You have to open it with word pad, and then save it.
Love your name BTW.

You do not have the administrator's privileges. Ask the one who is the master of that computer his admin pass and then run that folder as administrator. If he won't give you the password, then i guess you should just rely on your luck or ask him do change the line for you. LoL. Then it should work.

By the way, this is not really meant for this forum. This should be in the technical forum.. Anyways, I never suggest you open .cfg files in wordpad, only in notepad. If you can, right click the CFG file and uncheck the box for "read-only" and apply. If that is not allowed because of administrator privileges, then just save it into my documents then and move it back into the thief folder.

It looks like you're trying to save it as a .txt file, which you don't have permission to do as it's a .cfg file.
Try removing the file from the directory and temporarily placing it on the desktop. Then edit the file, save it as .cfg, and put it back into the directory.
