The Dark Brotherhood does have a small presence on Vvardenfell. I don't believe you can join them but I could be mistaken.
A lot of the Morag Tong quests involve hunting down and disposing of Dark Brotherhood members, as they kill for profit and not for Mephala. I've gotten all the way up to Grandmaster of the Morag Tong now, and their "fork" of the storyline is quite engaging.

>>The Dark Brotherhood does have a small presence on Vvardenfell. <<
Right, there are a couple of Dark Brotherhood NPCs, but there is no Dark Brotherhood faction coded into the game.

That's like saying that the Camonna Tong doesn't exist just because you can't join them.
Elenkis on 13/5/2002 at 03:44
Uh, not at all.
The Camonna Tong is a built in faction. They have ranks, structure, reputation and disposition towards to your character and the other factions in the game. Though you cannot join them they are a real game faction just like the Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild etc.
There is no such thing for the Dark Brotherhood, they are NOT a defined faction in the game. Use the editor to look through the factions in the ESM file if you really want to, there is NO Dark Brotherhood faction in the game.

The Dark Brotherhood is an IG faction... they might not *technically* be a faction because they are so small, but they are a presence in Morrowwind. i just polished off their leader.

Bleh, as I said: "there is no Dark Brotherhood faction coded into the game." :p
There are some Dark Brotherhood NPCs, but they play no part in the game's faction system. The game does not see them as a faction, period. So there is no possible way to ever join them, which is what this entire thread is about - hence my above quote.
:p

Still not true. You cannot join the Dark Brotherhood, yes, but you also can't join the Camonna Tong (yet they are still a faction to the game engine). You will probably never run into the Dark Brotherhood intentionally in the game unless you join the Morag Tong. They ARE a faction IG ("In Game"). That's why the leader of the Morag Tong sends you after them - to wipe the traitors off the map.
i think we're arguing two lines here - technically (OOC - "out of character") they are not a faction to the game engine. IG, i.e. to the citizens of Morrowwind and to the role playing aspects of the game, they are. :cheeky:

You argue that there is no Dark Brotherhood because the game engine does not define ranks or allegiances. So what?
From the perspective of the end user, who isn't cracking open the editor, there is a small, hidden faction called the Dark Brotherhood that has a leader you have to kill for the Morag Tong.
