I definitely second that one! Although I have never played a game of that style, I actually found it a lot more enjoyable than I was anticipating. I was a little annoyed at the start with having to do lots of wandering about between areas, but the game got much better as it progressed.
I also agree that Ultima 9 is worth looking at. Just make sure that you have the fully patched game and a very powerful system. I played it on a 400MHz K6/2, and it was rather painful to say the least!

Wow .. thanks for all the recommendations:) Gothic looks interesting AND my local shop has it (it doesn't have Ultima IX anymore in stock) .. so I think I might give it a try.
I reinstalled Sea Dogs yesterday though, and I think it might provide a nice way to pass the time until Arx and Morrowind come out. For those who do not know it : Basically it's 'Pirates' in 3D : a open-ended (literally) swashbuckler game. You command a ship in a carribean like island formation, can go hunting for merchants, be one yourself or fullfill quests given by NPCs in the cities.
Running through the cities and fighting is done in 3rd Person view, sailing can be done in 3rd person (ship?) view or from aboard in 1st person. Only drawbacks is that the fighting takes a *lot* of time and might be frustrating for some.
The grafics are nice to very nice (especially when sailing), sound and music are quite well done too. The Music was played by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra if I'm not mistaken.
If you can find it as a bargain somewhere you might want to give it a try.
