It's been a few years but what I remember of Critters was that it was intentionally trying to be a bit 'cult'. Grounds for automatic disqualification, surely?
Hmmm, I just remember Critters being hot on the heels of Gremlins, cashing in on the creature-feature fad that burned hot and fast, and it being really silly, not intentionally cult. I could be wrong though.

It seems that the only people who think Starship Troopers is brilliant satire are the ones who've read the book (for the record, I haven't yet). I saw the movie and thought it was stupid crap. Then I heard all this stuff about it being brilliant satire, watched it again, and thought it was only slightly less stupid crap. I can only conclude that it could have been much better.
I do like Total Recall though, and think it's a very under-appreciated movie. Most people don't "get it" (and think it's just a mindless action movie). Still, it bugs the crap out of me that they'd build these domes on Mars using easy-to-shatter fragile glass rather than thick plexiglas (whether it's all a fantasy or not).

Ah, ZylonBane, for you irony is something to put creasies onto your shirties.
The fact is, if it was intended as a "satire" in the true sense, it failed. As a dumb cheesy action flick, it was great fun, and it had enough poor attempts at satire to make it pretty damn funny. That's all. [/echo]

Jesus, it's like you need to be able to write an essay on the movie's deep character interaction, their intricately developed personal histories and the profound and subtle implications about the human nature in general conveyed by the movie's story to be allowed to like a fucking movie around here.

I don't know if they did it right then sure. But so far I've seen nothing but failures.

Doesn't exist, and if it did, it would probably be horrible.
I haven't seen Starship Troopers in ages (since it came out) but I don't remember it being horrible. I mean sure typical action flick but with a fun sci-fi theme and lots of alien bugs. I remember it being good fun, whether satirical or not. And this does not speak volumes of my taste, I'm the type who typically shuns Hollywood movies and prefers more complex indie/foreign films. But I'm not of the common opinion that dumb action films are automatically horrible.

Kind of being sarcastic. Some on the forum's go oh no when mentioned.
Tomb raider movies I did not like much. They were Cheesy!.
Then I have not played many of the games either. Love Indian Jones which I always have thought similar in some respects.
Thief could be good if it was really like the original games.
I think some of the Fan Mission Authors would do the best job of the Screen play!.
