Yes, that's true, in a sense. Pretty much all the music I listen to is pop, in some way or another. I even bought a single by Kylie Minogue once, on purpose. But my point was that I'm not a huge fan of this particular subgenre of pop, nor the artist in general. And yet, the power of the song itself forced me to admit I like it, despite my own arrogance and elitism and stupid nonsense I've trapped myself in. Granted, I've expanded my definition of "pop" from KMFDM to Rammstein to Metallica to Aphex Twin to Front Line Assembly to Stevie Wonder to BB King to Ella Fitzgerald. It's all pop, in the sense that it's music, that is popular. In that sense, my favourite band Depeche Mode is an exceptionally successful pop band. More so than many godawful boybands I so utterly despise. Even I have limits.

My point was I'm going against my nature, to admit to liking a pop song. Your point is that all I like is pop. In this case, I think you win. I concede.

I should probably elaborate on that. When I grew up, the charts were completely dominated by a small handful of artists, such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, Wham, and in the UK a constantly revolving roster of interchangeable Stock-Aitken-Waterman produced artist such as Kylie and Rick Astley, and some other godawful piece of crap. From my perspective, they were "the enemy". The omnipresent horribleness you could never escape, your only refuge would be whatever alternative stuff you would find on MTV 120 Minutes or in my brother's LP collection. I grew up on heavy metal, Kraftwerk and all sorts of alternative bands. But even then, every once in a while, one of "the enemy" would release a song that was surprisingly not awful, or actually quite good. If I think back I could probably name one song at least by each one of those artists I liked. Except for Michael Jackson, I always despised him. Still do. Your mileage may vary.
