My favorite Stereolab album! I really like their mid-90s work, from Mars Audiac Quintet through Cobra and Phases. Dots and Loops in particular has an avant-garde lounge sound that brings back memories of house parties with best friends when we were just finishing school and starting our careers.
I think I have every track they've ever released on CD, and I genuinely like all of it. Dots and Loops is definitely a favorite though. I think my absolute favorite is Cobra and Phases (the re-issue is glorious) and the singles from around the Emperor/Dots/Cobra era, like Flourescenes which I can listen to on repeat forever.

Better Call Saul had an episode some years ago where Kim's listening to Tempter, and that immediately led me to revisit all their good shit. I always start with Emperor Tomato Ketchup for that fuzzy warm nostalgic glow.
edit: taffernicus, you posted some Tedeschi Trucks Band a while ago. Thought you might appreciate this version of Midnight in Harlem, which drops in a face-melting guitar solo from Derek Trucks. And Susan, well, she sounds just as amazing live as in the studio.

It warms my heart to see Stereolab, Dots and Loops, my favourite album of theirs.
TMBG, always.
Tonight, I had a very good night. I went to see Wolfgang Flür live.
The opening act was someone I had never heard of, Peter Duggal. Turned out to be really really good. Pounding drum machines, slow sweeping strings, blips here and there, very atmospheric. Very impressed.

Then, Wolfgang. At first, he came on, standing stiff, like a displeased librarian, eyeing the crowd over his glasses. Didn't move a muscle. But, by track two, he moved to the laptop and started playing. He looked a bit like an embarrassing granddad at a wedding, trying badly and failing to dance. But then, he kicked ass. Hard techno, very Kraftwerkian, sometimes reworked versions of songs he made with them, sometimes his own material. It was not just us old bald heads and grey beards, even some young people were dancing like mad. It was amazing.
It was not this show, but similar.

No Boings. But that was as expected.

Found this song by accident on spotify, i really like the lyric :
Quote:
-Jonathan Brenner-Instagram Success-
I am an Instagram success
My life is beautiful and blessed
By gossip girls in magazines
I am a Photoshop phenom
Sipping cocktails on the lawn
Livin' out your wildest dreams
I'm oh so suave and debonnaire
Look how the sunlight hits my hair
On the perfect summer day
My canvas is the tiny screen
The fashion shoots in limousines
And sparkling surf in Saint-Tropez
And I'm oh so high
In the cardboard sky
Where the plastic angels cry
I know I'm not all that unique
Perhaps the flavor of the week
Ah, but what a week it was
And I don't have a lot to say
But people listen anyway
Because I'm all the buzz
Yeah, I'm a phony and a fraud
That's what it takes to be a God
And that is what I'm gonna be
When they unroll the yellow tape
And all the people gawk and gape
I'll give 'em what they wanna see

Who remembers the phenomenal British new wave band, Japan? I believe that in this musical discussion, there will be people who were captivated by the work of David Sylvian and his band in the late '70s and early '80s.

Never heard of Japan. And what's a Prophet 5.
Felt like watching this for the 48925795463th time after mentioning it earlier. God I love this song.
