Kevin Bacon
Some 15-odd years ago, I saw an excellent small local blues band called Bacon Brothers. Unrelated, of course. They were a bit ZZ Top but with a metal drummer, very energetic, very exciting. And Kevin Bacon was not involved. But Kevin Bacon's Bacon Brothers isn't too shabby either.
But Tocky, in a few weeks Samantha Fish is playing here, and I'm trying to convince my partner to come with me to the show. I like what I hear, I've not had enough live blues lately, but can you please recommend some of her songs to persuade my partner to come with me? She likes the idea of a live show, but is a bit more alt-rock.

I suppose it helps to have a taste for blues guitar.

A lot of blues guitar.

Not sure it jibes with early nineties pop stuff exactly, not that I don't like it, it's just so different. Surely she will go for the company alone no? It's never where you or what you do so much as who you are with.

Unfortunately, it's a moot point, we all have Covid now, so nobody's going. I was quite keen to see her, but not enough to cough in her face.

Sometimes, some BBC PA must have been doing their homework. Last week, when the SNP held their party conference in Aberdeen, which, naturally, was highly focused on Scotland leaving the UK as usual, on the BBC report they played this song in the background. From a band from Aberdeen. About overcoming the impossible. To me, that was a hilarious six seconds of music in a news show. They don't usually do music on the news, so it was unexpected. I used to dance my feet off to that in 1991. But also the contradictory line of "one nation, one tribe". I salute whoever did the homework on that.
[Edit]
That might have been too vague a reference; bits of Scotland has been itching to leave the UK for decades, or since (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_Union_1707) 1707, and the worse the tories down in London, the itchier it gets. And now it's really itchy.
[Edit again]
SNP is the Scottish National Party. The whole reason for their existence is to gain Scottish independence from the UK. To undo what was done with bribery, lies and trickery in 1707. See above. According to them. Since I'm an EU citizen in Scotland, now very displeased with Brexit, I have very mixed emotions about the whole affair. I wish we could have some actual grown-ups in here to sort things out.
[Edit again again]
But the main point, it was really funny to hear six seconds of this song on an actual news show.

Jesus.
Anyway, I'm sorry you have Covid, Gray. Hopefully mostly over it by now although I'm not sure you ever fully get over it. I got the first batch and there are still mornings I wake up coughing and nearly puking. But hey, you got the later version. Lucky you. It mutated to the live with it instead of die with it stage mostly. I'm sure you don't feel lucky. I saw on farcebook that Samantha Fish has done Edinburgh now. A shame we both missed her. A shame I missed out on going to Edinburgh due to Covid.
I got nothing to contribute sooooooo I guess I'll just post one of my all time faves. My cousin Tony makes these speaker in a birdhouse things he sells up in Wisconsin and has like a hundred of them in his back yard. He knew I liked this song and it was made for quad surround sound so he posted it on farcebook for me as he filmed going by each one. I wish I could post that shit here because it was way cool but here is just the usual version-

This is the best thing I've put on at the crack of a Sunday dawn to in a while. I might even revisit Due South because of the mountie line.
Edit: get better, Gray!
