Well she is gone now. I wasn't any sort of fan but there was this movie I got dragged to a lifetime ago. And then had the song sung to me after.
I didn't shape up.
Anyway, there is some sweetness still in even a pressed rose. RIP Olivia.

Yes RIP.
Although she was born in UK, I always thought of Olivia as Australian. A friend of hers, “fellow” Australian, Judith Durham died 4 days ago. Similarly I wasn’t a big fan, no doubt thinking
The Seekers were too clean-cut and wholesome, and appealing more to my parents but I recently watched a concert which I'd been at all those years ago and realised what a very good voice she had. They came on stage and went straight into their performance.
It’s said their first three records went to number one respectively dislodging the Stones, the Kinks and the Beatles (who were all also performing on the same show and who I’d gone to see with friends). It was a big ol’ concert of everyone popular in the UK that year. Watching it in full on a video I even picked me out in the audience. There was so much screaming during (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93HYF8uuT3s#t=1h16m30s) the Beatles (in theory I've set that link to the correct time - if not apologies) it’s amazing they could hear themselves. A camera team that took residence next to our row didn't help, as nearby young ladies felt obliged to jump up and down and make even more noise.
Anyway RIP Judith. Very grainy video from, as you say, another lifetime.

Don't think I posted this before (previously I posted Road to Cairo from same album). On the other hand ... it's often playing in my head. Depending on the mood I’m in, I can find this song quite chilling. I haven’t been Down River :nono: but it’s not difficult to identify. The thing about putting on a brave face, and the thing about time.

That's fun. I made a pilgrimage to Roswell for the 50th anniversary of the landing. It was pretty small town crazy.

My dad was at Roswell Air Base when the first atomic bomb went off. It was night and the first thing he did was to check his watch to make sure the sun wasn't coming up. He could read it well. The next day they told them a cover story about an ammo dump blowing up. But yeah, fun song.
Also this is always in my rotation somewhere-

I know nothing about this band and was thinking it was a recent recording but see it's from 1998 so it's not that new. Still, the sound reminds me of earlier times and smoky clubs.

Edit: Well I knew I was out of touch but, to my shame, Errol Linton and other band members, Adam Blake et al, are very well known playing in London and elsewhere. :o

Because we've spent so much time with mom-in-law lately and everyone is coming to visit, me and Josh sat and talked for the first time in years and I got to ask him what happened with Mindset Evolution. I liked their early stuff. He went through the whole history of the cocaine fueled record label and how they twisted the sound to please them. Ah. In the end it was just Josh and the lead singer when they called it quits. Too much jerking around of the sound to be what was on the radio and not enough what they were. A shame. I really liked their first album. I posted some of it on here long ago. I can't even find the damn thing now.
Anyway they toured with Saving Able for a time and I let him know my buddy Dave (took the pictures at his wedding even) is with them as the drummer and he knew them and was excited that we knew some of the same people. It was good to reconnect. But sad. I liked the energy and weirdness of their original vision. Just a damn shame. Good to see Josh though. He is the bass player. Ironically prescient song now.

At 0:48 there is a really good shot of Josh for just a second before he turns away. I gave one attempt at urging him to move on to another band but it's his life and I don't want to intrude. Touring is hard enough when you are young but in your thirties it's really hard. Whatever makes him happy is what I want for him. He had more than most get anyway. Nice of him to come down to support my MIL at this time.

last one my favorite jazz cover of all time, last album before his death, coming on from a suicide of his partner, such sublime improv.

Its worth listening to the whole album really if you are a jazz fan.
You Must Believe in Spring.
Its a call to the eventual closing of a winter, when times will be better. A noteworthy musical piece for all those afflicted with depression and melancholy.
This. Wonderful version.

Noise time. In about nine days, one of my all time favourite bands are coming to town. They're Swedish. I'm Swedish. But we're not in Sweden.
This would be the one band I've seen play live more than any other, probably about a dozen times or so. I used to live so far removed from civilisation that the only chance to see any decent music would involve a 32 hour trip by various insufferable means to get to a rock festival of sorts down south. A synth festival. On most of these festivals, this band, Covenant, would play. Some times the very main reason to GO to these festivals was that they would play. And some other very good contemporary bands.
So far, I have only seen them once here in Glasgow, but it was awesome. Now, 5-7 years later, they've decided to tour again. I will NOT miss it.
Now, if I was me, and most of the time I am, I'd pimp one of their harsh unlistenable noisefests, just to prove how amazingly difficult and insufferable they can be. But I'm not gonna do that, Instead, I'll pimp their biggest commercial hit, just hoping to generate interest, but in real life, their angry noisy crap is usually a whole lot better.

Ooops, accidental noisefest. So sorry.

I am longing for all the things I had and lost, I am longing for ignorance and bliss.
And, aw, shucks... we're fucked now, aren't we?
