I don't think it's their best song, I just think it's their best recording (and probably the best recording ever). For me their best song would probably be Something or the medley on Abbey Road. I also wouldn't call the Beatles my favorite band. That would go to Neu! or pre-SubPop Low or somebody. But in my mind there's no question they were the best band ever. And for as lauded as their influence is, I still think it's massively underrated. Not everyone who has made music in the past 50 years was influenced by the Beatles, but I bet they were influenced by someone who was influenced by the Beatles. Especially when you consider how influential krautrock has been on almost every subsequent genre of music and how much reverence all those guys had for the Beatles.

(Of course, other people were influential and are underrated too, particularly the Beach Boys or James Brown. Or Bo Diddley. Or John Cage and Stockhausen. Terry Riley. Etc.)
