Well, we started with that one, but I prefer Sunshine over Take so I posted that instead :p

Twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, I do an LFD Covid test, since my local area has a quite high infection rate. I've set an alarm on my mobile to remind me. The alarm signal is this song.

That means, twice a week, I hear about 12-15 seconds of the intro before I switch off the alarm. Then I instantly wish I could hear the whole damn song. And it's stuck in my head for the next three days, until the alarm goes off again.
And so far, every test has been negative. Phew!
And yes, I've had two doses of vaccine.

Thank you for that. I’ve become a Karen Carpenter fan at last, having worked out that years ago I confused her with Carole King. :tsktsk: I remember thinking “Oh she’s still alive, I thought she'd died”, “She’s singing with James Taylor. Didn’t she have a brother? ” etc. Turns out I liked both and belatedly I’ve read about Karen’s short life.
This is beautiful. Strong sister/brother relationship, like watching the Everly Brothers or other siblings.

Yes, one of the great female vocalists that died tragically at the age of 32.
Fortunately, this one is still alive...

Karen Carpenter channeling her inner Squarepusher:
I did not realise she was such an accomplished drummer until I saw a documentary about them a few years ago. Apparently, she much preferred that to singing, but that was not at the time a marketable skill for a woman, so they made her the face of soppy love ballads instead. My brother is a drummer and he quotes her as an inspiration. How little I know.
[Edit]
And to Vae, all the members of ABBA were popstars in their own right before they formed the band, the guys had been in highly successful bands and written songs for others, the girls had been solo hits. They did not just appear out of nowhere, they were all in their 30s when they made it big.

Frida (aka Annifrid Lyngstad, one of the A's of ABBA) guest starring on 80s pop band Ratata. Not the blonde one, the one who actually enjoyed being a pop star. (Blonde Agneta hated it. The other A.)

Ratata were massively popular in Sweden in the 80s, but the lead singer, Mauro Scocco, was not very comfortable with being a pop star, and after a brief solo career he mainly wrote songs for other people, and the other guy, Johan Ekelund became a producer.
And yes, it's VERY 80s, with WAY too much reverb. I suppose this counts as a Power Ballad, it's very emotional, about a failing relationship and trying to give it another go.
I do sometimes genuinely try to NOT be a pop nerd and smart ass, but when people mention things I know, my nerd muscle twitches. Sorry about that. And I don't even like ABBA that much.
[Edit]
Just for reference, the two B's in Abba were Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson. Nothing B about them, both accomplished songwriters in their own right. Even if they wore silly pants in the 70s.

I never knew what ABBA stood for. I thought it was some Swedish word or something.
Honestly I never got into the Carpenters. I've quoted her when my wife burps (or worse) "why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near..." as it makes a nice break from the Tom Jones "She's a ladyyyyy" but I can't think of any I found that applied to me. Not that I don't like the sappy ones. I like this one. The message is good and the movie Billy Jack was an attempt to get people to care for the discrimination still ongoing against Native Americans. It didn't work on anyone over thirty. The occupation of Wounded Knee happened just two years later and that was a damn shame. It was a good attempt in the beginning but there were killings which did nothing for the cause and things went on being bad for them for a number of years. I didn't mean to give a history lesson but you can read about it here- (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Occupation)- if you want.
Anyway I still get a lump in my throat when the girl cries as he is arrested. Ah well, at least he kicked every racist, rapist, horse killing bastards ass in the movie. Sad that life doesn't work out as well.

Hmmmm looking at this version maybe the songs words are just a tad at odds with the movie. Of course in the song the good folks all die so....

Those were brave stuntmen.
Tom Laughlin ran for president back in 92 and actually made a lot of sense. He was one of the first to call for health care for all but of course he lost to Clinton who did little but cave to Republicans.

I knew nothing about it. Very sobering. And reading that Marlon Brando sent an Apache to the Academy Awards to decline his Oscar for The Godfather (because of what was happening at Wounded Knee) took me back. I had a demanding job at the time and my boss who’d just seen The Godfather liked saying
"It's not personal, it's strictly business". For some reason the dash at the end of that link causes a problem but (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Occupation) works.
