That's the point. Springsteen's expression of male sexual desire isn't ugly. It's raw and honest and beautiful. Prettying it up
as if it was ugly is on the same level of misunderstanding Springsteen as booming Born in the USA on July 4th. It is not valid within any reasonable frame of reference. Mark it zero.
Haha, I think it's okay if we agree to disagree here. It's definitely a raw and honest song, but if we go by the video and the lyrics, it's about a dude falling for a woman already in a relationship, then thinking the better of it. To codify socially inappropriate sexual desire as beautiful is... well, that's not how I'd describe it. It's a song dripping with frustration and longing, and while I find neither of those aesthetically appealing (the point where we disagree), it's absolutely honest and true emotionally.
Meute are pretty cool. Here's a video from Irish band Fontaines D. C. starring Littlefinger/Tommy Carcetti undergoing an existential crisis while the song's splintering metronomic beat drives him through it.

I thought "Im on Fire" was about illicit lust for an underage girl, but there you go.

At first blush it might seem that way, but I'm more comfortable interpreting those first lines as a metaphor. The video, anyway, is pretty clear it's a woman and as a bonus it's a sort of deconstruction of Uptown Girl.

A while ago there was a comedian on Conan O'Brien's podcast (Conan needs a friend) who boasted about being thrown from an event for suggesting the same idea about this song in his routine. Conan should have thrown him from his show there and then, but he's always super friendly and supportive with his guests and that may have been a mistake in this case.
American culture is just obsessed with demonizing - and at the same time fantasizing about - underage sex. One amplifies the other, spawning a lusting hatred that is very puritan. And it makes people stupid.
You only have to listen to the lyrics to realize that Springsteen compares the sexual things he can do to her with those her "daddy" can. It's dick size comparison on a poetical level. Now either you assume that this girl is already being sexually abused by her father and Springsteen - like some kind of Satan - suggests to a child he could do much worse. Or you take into consideration the long history of infantilizing women in colloquial speech and songs and conclude that "hey little girl" must be another way of saying "hey baby". This should be an easy choice unless you have an inclination to externalize your fantasies about underage sex.

well you got me there, dammit.

Don't worry, I'm not judging as long as it stays a fantasy.

HA! Hey Heartbreaker! One I've posted here.
Here is the antidote to all that upbeat. I mostly like the video because I've dreamed so many times that I could fly but only three feet off the ground until the dream police/aliens/CIA/zombies start chasing me. Then I can soar. It has a certain eerie otherworldly quality like a dream. Not necessarily a good or bad one, just just with it's own logic.

Karin Dreijer !
Since about 18 months I'm a big fan of her.
I really like her 2009 album "Fever Ray" under the alias "Fever Ray".
Even if you have never heard of Karin, The Knife or Fever Ray, I bet you all know the first song of that album.
