I envy you folks that get to see a lot of good bands.
When I grew up I lived at the ass-end of space, the tiniest shittiest town a million miles from civilisation. No good bands would ever play there, so I had to travel hundreds of miles to rock festivals to see any decent music. Now, I live in a major city, and good bands actually DO play, and many that were on my must-see-before-I-die list. This is why I'm posting all these "I saw them live last week" thingies, because I can finally do that, see them, go there, and experience it. I never could before, but I can now, so I'm going to make the best of it as see as much as I can. I'll probably be found dead in a mosh pit, not from being stomped on, just dehydration from excessive sweat, with torn neck muscles from overly headbanging. It's one of the perks of finally living in civilisation.

Probably the one band I've seen live more than any others, they played all the festivals I used to go to, and I've even seen them a couple of times in this new, strange country. This is one of their bounciest tracks that I've played rather a lot recently, and not just for nostalgia. It kicks ass.

Not seen them live yet, but we had them on our wedding playlist. When they came on, the tiny bar function room dance floor filled up pretty quickly.

Where were all of those girls when I was looking for them? Probably hiding behind guys much cooler than me.

I guess there is a certain sameness to all the songs I like. They are all upbeat. I can't help it.

One more. Also many are about being bad I've noticed.

Adding those mouth-popping noises into the mix was a weird decision, but whatever. Love most of Mayra Andrade's music. She has such a soothing voice that I can almost feel my blood pressure dropping.

Right now I'm going through Latvian rappers. One interesting thing with listening to a language you don't know is that the voice becomes just another rhythmical device and the musical quality of it becomes so much more important. Another thing that might also be an advantage is that you don't know what they are rapping about... I say "might", because, of course, not all of it is going to be juvenile testosterone fantasies. I usually prefer the older rappers, because they are more likely to have calmed down a bit and left the "gangster" posing phase.
So, why am I doing this? It started yesterday with this track:

It's a commercial (for a Baltic chain of grocery retailers (according to my googling)), so a bit of a guilty pleasure, but I liked the track enough to trying to find the artists. Today I went through the comments, which are all in Latvian, but I eventually found something that looked like a name, Kristīne Pāže, and that was it for the gal. The guy turned out to be harder to find. Google translate suggested Latvian, so I assumed he's a, somewhat known(?), Latvian rapper. Kristīne Pāže has collaborated a bit with someone called (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOl-rAgJ9kk) Ansis, for example in this (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HISb8CRwgg) track (don't blame me if you know Latvian and somehow end up being offended by the lyrics).
Ansis and the guy in the video don't look -- or sound -- very alike, though, so I'm still looking. On the other hand, I'm not too invested and with more hair and a bigger moustache, Ansis could pass off as a good enough lookalike, so maybe I'll settle with that. I wasn't too impressed with the rapper in the commercial (he seemed mostly like a sidekick for comic relief and might even just be whatever actor that got casted). Any further research is now just to satisfy my nerdy curiosity.
I did find a Latvian "relay race" to which over 40 rappers posted their tracks in response, so I went through all those (for example (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJr-ey90GKI) this), but without finding what I was looking for. I think it's time to close all the browser tabs now and move on with life...
