True, I don't remember, but I'm sorry, Tocky! :o Five years ago I was still at my old job, back then I probably was a bit allergic about this issue, because one of my workmates was what I (still) call Breeder Dad - he truly earned it. He really chafed me over my choice, after managing to pry it out of me (I kind of stepped around the question for a while, knowing he'd give me serious shit, but he didn't give up so in the end I gave straight answer).
Here some of his "arguments", real classics:
- What? EVERYONE wants kids! You're not normal! How selfish!
- Put that dog down and have kids like you should
- When you meet the right guy you'll want kids
- You will regret as soon as it's too late!
- You don't know what life/love REALLY is if you don't have kids
- Your life must be so empty
- You'll be alone and miserable when you're old
etc. When I finally said ok, IF I ever changed my mind, I would adopt a child. He also was strongly against that, because "If everyone thought like you, our streets would be full of niggers and chinks!".
You can laugh these off occasionally, but hearing them day-to-day basis and uttered with openly judgemental attitude and downright anger might have some effect on how you react to them from others, too.
But I'm over it now, so I can laugh and shrug them off ;)

I believe the term is (
http://www.quiverfull.com) Quiverfull. Those guys are some crazy fuckers. I'm surprised the guys have any testicles left...and that the mothers aren't dead yet from massive organ failure due to multiple consecutive births. Of course, they're still weird fundie retards, but their ...stamina... is behemothic.
I love that word...behemothic...
Yeah, that was the one. I've heard that referred to as 'breeder' too, which is why I thought it odd that that word would be bandied around so freely in other settings.
Edit: and Alinestra, I have an aversion to linking to things that could be horrendously objectionable. ;)

Tocky - Sorry for being insulting, though you did reduce the demographics argument to an extreme that really wasn't discussable.
Regarding my last post - yeah, OK, maybe annoying, but the point was to strip out AR's valid point and discard the rest. I sorta hoped we might eventually get around to narrowing in on that point and discuss demographics. And if that went somewhere, discuss whether memetic evolution is behind the societal pressure/duty to procreate.
And GBM, I know this is your playground, but WTF? If you're going to give 3 day bans for hurling insults, week bans for mocking bad English, and month bans for annoying quote style, you could throw out half of CommChat.

It's crossed my mind a few times, yes. :)

I honestly didn't even think it was possible to get banned in CommChat. I mean, a lot worse things have been said or done than what's in this thread.

The best one was when BackdoorBandit wrote a lengthy post about Mr Croft giving him head

This is a classic strawman argument. Instead of arguing against what other posters were actually saying, AR introduced a stereotype and then tried to paint all the childfree with it, to make them easy targets I guess. Some of Vas' later posts revealed a little of this attitude, but it certainly was not the attitude taken by the majority of childfree posters.
How about the majority of posters who identify themselves as "childfree," which was AR's point. And, not exactly all that surprising, the one vocal "childfree" person in this thread is the one who then revealed a little of this attitude, as you yourself pointed out.
AR was railing against a specific subset of people who choose not to have kids,
but not all. And he's right--vocal and self-absorbed "childfree" advocates who couch their decision in self-important factual non-starters like "overpopulation" and "the sorry state of the world" are living in a fantasy of their own creation.
This isn't really exclusive to "childfree" people in general, as I've typically noticed a direct correlation between how closely someone identifies with a personal lifestyle choice and and how deeply his or her head is ensconced up one's ass. I was a vegetarian for seven years, and dear god the card-carrying vegetarians pissed me off.

Call me what you want and interpret my words how you like Stitch, but I still have a question.
Since you've clearly decided that childfree people are "typically" this and "generally" that and "majority" whatever, and so thin-skinned they hear intrusive comments that really don't even exist, how can you explain the people who are not voluntary childless - they'd love to have kids if they could - and yet hear the same things?
I'm gonna keep using the word childfree, because for me "free" is a nice positive word :)

To answer the question in the thread title, yes I also plan on living a childfree lifestyle. Count me in.
In fact, I want to start a family tradition of not having children, and I want to pass this down from generation to generation...

Well I'm not surprised you've noticed that! It does sound like they all share one particular lifestyle choice that would rather eclipse any others they might have made, however, so I'm not sure whether you can really extrapolate any useful statistics about general lifestyle choice identification from your data.
It all sounds damned uncomfortable in any case.
