And what does that tell us? In terms of graphics, we know as much about DX2 as we do about Doom 3, which is basically nothing. Those developers would say anything to get us off their backs, ha ha.

The only thing I heared about Deus Ex 2 is that you be able to complete the game without killing anyone!
Thats sounds pretty cool to me! I like Thief, and stealth is always cool!
Roll on Deus Ex 2 and Thief III! And both with a crystal of visibility!

A visiblity crystal just represents the information you get when you look at yourself and see how dark you look. But in most FPS's you can't look at yourself. So in thief, where it was necesary to look at yourself and see how well lit you are, they made the visibility gem to tell you this information.
It's the same as a health bar. You don't have a health bar in real life, but you can tell how healthy you feel. And I don't think anyone complains about the health bar in games becasue its unrealistic. You can tell the information contained in the health bar in real life, so being told the information in a game isn't unrealistic.
It's like I said before; a visibility gem isn't unrealistic, you could access this information in real life. It's not being able to access this information that is unrealistic.

Bit disagreeing there...
You can see yourself in Deus Ex, just as you can see yourself in RL (maybe except for the angles, but that's not important)
But while in RL I'm able to tell how I feel, in games I cannot really tell how my Char feels. So, either you have a character that always tells you how much his leg hurts, and that he can't walk long with this pain (where I think most wouldn't play that game for long), or you need a health bar/colour scheme/whatever...
However, you're right with the additional info thing, and it certainly is another way for telling you if you are visible or not. Just that I think without it the game "gives me more", if you know what I mean...

Yeah, but I don't want to have to draw a weapon to see how well lit I am. That's so silly it ruins the immersion a bit for me.

Umm .. weren't you just agreeing with me there ... not disagreeing, like you said?

Sure, I know what you mean, I just don't get that feeling. Tell ya' what, why don't they make it optional to have a deus ex equivalent to the visibility gem. Than we'd all be happy. :)
Now we can argue which setting should be the default ;).
Dragonclaw on 28/4/2002 at 14:51
Hmm, no, I was disagreeing (a bit, as said :) )
While you can see yourself in DX, you cannot tell how your Char feels.
So while the health bar and that like is just for representing the reality, that you can (due to a not existing link to your Char) not experience (pain, and such), the visibility crystal is additional information, which you can see with your eyes in the game, just as you would in RL...
But I agree with you on the "obligatory" thing, that's what I usually go for, too.
And, of course, the default setting would be no crystal! ;)

Ok, now I get you, but unless you draw a weapon (which I don't like to have to do) than you can't look at your body and see how well lit you are. You can try to deduce it from your surroundings, true, but there's no reason to have to do this, and since your body doesn't actually inhabit the same position as the floor under you and any walls nearby, that information can sometimes be misleading.
In real life, I'd be able to look down and see how well lit my body really is, that's why I think a visibility gem is better.
VOTE 1: VISIBILITY GEM FOR DEFAULT!! :D
Dragonclaw on 29/4/2002 at 13:03
Yeah, I know what you mean.
but then I'd suggest no crystal, but being able to see your own body, and not magically floating around... ;)
OK, that's it, the crystal thing is past. :cheeky:
Go home, people. Nothing to see here. Go home, please. Pass by, Sir, nothing to see here. ;)

Final note: Yes, actually being able to see oyur body would be cool, in fact, I suggested it in thief 3 forums some time ago. :thumb:
