YES, a salmiac vodka IS in order here! It is Friday, after all :)
And then we retry. I did read that when I started this whole mess. Question: Once I install TG, before TFix, should I try to play the game first? I did try the first time, and I got a black screen. And cam.cfg had virtually no text! I had to copy Nameless Voice's stuff from (

Hello again, Summer :)
Sorry for your data loss, but if it is Thief you are mostly sobbing about, then I think it isn't so bad. These days it's extreemly easy to run Thief. Basically just install Thief 2 with the latest official 1.18v patch and then just add the 1.19 unofficial patch released just a couple of weeks ago. :D It's rather amazing. Then you just need darkloader and download whichever FM you like and play! Pretty simple, no?
Hi, Thor! Great to hear from y'all again :)
I haven't even gotten to T2 yet, just TG. But yup, that does SOUND easy. Later on I will see if it really IS that easy :D (I'm sure it will, right?)

Thanks a bunch,
nickie! It worked exactly like you said: Fresh install of TG first, then TFix, and then the missing .dll--and lo and behold, I have my beautiful TG back :) I've gone as far as the Bonehoard in one day, yay!
Next step: TMA! *gathering courage and patience, deep breaths*

No need to hold your breath. It'll work, no problem! :thumb:
I should know: It works A-OK here in Linux. Windows is a cake-walk in comparison.

Okay, people, as you know after my old PC crashed, I got a new Win 7 laptop. This is how I installed Thief Gold and Thief Metal Age, just for future reference to anyone who might need it:
Pre-install, same with both TG and TMA, since the installation process wouldn't begin on it's own: Force install with Run command e:\setup.exe -lgntforce, where E is your CD/DVD drive.
INSTALLING THIEF GOLD TO WIN 7:
1. Fresh install of TG
2. Install TFix 1.12
3. Install any missing .dll's
INSTALLING THIEF METAL AGE TO WIN 7:
1. Fresh Install of TMA
2. Install T2 patch 1.07-1.18
3. Install T2 patch 1.19
Now I don't know if what I did will work for you, but here's hoping it will be as painless as it was for me :) You guys helped me out a lot. I tend to over-think things, and I was going through all kinds of unnecessary hoops.
And may I say: TG has NEVER looked better! TMA's skies, water, objects, everything actually pale in comparison with TG's glory!
I have a couple of pics, if they come through, and aren't too effing dark:
Here's the night sky at Bafford's in TG.

you have missed out on (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher, which will update TMA skies as well, among other things.

Thanks,
voodoo47. Since Tafferpatcher apparently comes before all other stages I mentioned, then I'll need to do a complete re-installation. Oh, might as well. I am already up at Framed, but... :)

My sympathies, Summer!! I so totally know your pain. Last October my pc croaked too. Totally. Well, it had a little help, I'm afraid. It acted up one night, I shut it off when I was done 'fixing' it, and the next morning it would not boot at all. I'd push the power button, it'd whir for a half a second, then click off again. Then do nothing at all for another 5 minutes before I could get a faint whir for a half second and it was off again. Whether it was the power supply, or the video card (which was acting funky the night before) I never got to learn. I let my dad try to 'fix' it. . .and he pulled the CPU out. . .then broke a bunch of pins on it trying to get it back in. -sigh- He won't be allowed near my machines again.
But meanwhile I had to wait a year to save up the money for a new machine. . .and now that I'm back up and running. . .yeah it was weird to get Thief going on W7, but amazingly easy. The only thiefy thing I actually *lost* was the mission I was building - which is stuck on the hard drive of the old machine. (Haven't quite figured out how to get my stuff off there. I'd only just backed up, so what I've 'lost' is fairly minimal. . .I'm not entirely sure its worth paying $50-100 to try to recover it, and a cheaper solution I haven't found yet. Pfft)
Glad to hear you're up and running again. Its amazingly easy to get Thief running now. . .I think I had more problem with it on XP than I did on 7, go figure. lol (Well, once I got a little help with the technical issues I had. Like the res files installing to the wrong folder. Still haven't figured out why they did that. . .)
Actually, i feel slightly better now that I'm not alone in the boat of computer woes and recovery. lol There ought to be a support group fro that sort of thing!

There is - it's called TTLG. :)

Elentari - You may be able to take the old HD out and transfer the files yourself. There's USB cables and cases you can get for about $15-20 USD.
