I stumbled upon this book made by a non-profit that reviews/talks about classic games and some newer ones. There's a link in the upper-right to download a 350-page PDF preview of the book for free. The Table of Contents near the front shows a lot of classic games I know and love; thought you might see some you like, too.

Looking Glass Studios is on
page 329.
Doing a CTRL + F search for "Thief" on the PDF and looking through the results yields a number of games influenced by Thief. I haven't read through it much yet, but thought I'd share, in case some haven't seen before.

That was a very interesting little tribute. Thanks for sharing :thumb:

Hi, book creator here, I'd just like to thank for the post and say that we're still looking for volunteers willing to help us with reviews.
So if anyone wants to write about their favorite RPGs, just send us a message: crpgbook@gmail.com
Cheers! :)

Awesome, felipepepe! And you actually registered here a couple years ago. Nice! Too bad "Thief 1 and 2" can't be in the book (that I was able to find anyways)... but it was nice to see so many games giving a nod to Thief! I hear a physical book version of it might be printed and released in 2017? That'd be quite the coffee table book or centerpiece to own :D
Good job on coordinating and compiling all these reviews!

Yeah, Thief 1 & 2 are often called "honorary RPGs" and people like Richard Garriott & Warren Spector consider them more RPG-like than Diablo, but it's a controversial and slippery slope...
I'm aiming for a 2017 release of the full book, then I'll collect all the feedback and see if there's enough interest for a printed edition. Maybe do a Kickstarter campaign for a limited print, or something like that, so that I can offer something more fancy and at cost price... but I've got to finish the book first. :)

Looks like a very interesting book. I would love to read all of it but not sure if I should do it now or wait for final release hmm. Not sure if I want to wait that long :D And I would be certainly interested in owning a copy eventually. I've also sent you an email regarding a small but obvious case of missing text in the contributors section. Anyway I think it's great even the contributors page is interesting to read, good to know there are so many people who know so much about these games. Also posted the book preview on a couple PC gamer groups on facebook but there was little feedback so I assume people are more interested in discussing Battlefield 1 and COD series. As if there was anything to discuss.
As for Thief being in the book I would probably think it shouldn't be there, because the only objective reason for it to be there is because you ROLEplay Garrett the thief. But then even Doom could be considered an RPG since you ROLEplay a guy fighting aliens in a certain scenario. I mean doom has a rudimental story too so technically it's same as Thief ;D Just a few mechanical/approach differences. Subjectively Thief sure does feel like playing an RPG.
Felipepepe are there any games in particular that you have in mind that need to be reviewed?
