Edit: As far as anime goes, aside from Cowboy Bebop, I like (

The moment I heard the opening title, I knew it had to be Yuki Kaijrua behind the music. And lo and behold...
While we're Galaxy Rangering and doling out stuff from our childhood, I might as well point out that what always interested me was the artwork in older animated series. Like ye olde MGM Tom and Jerry shorts directed by Fred Quimby from the '40s. I've always loved the detail in everything, from the backgrounds to the characters. There was also such a lot of personality behind each frame - you could
feel it.
Even when I was a kid, I was slightly miffed when I saw the Chuck Jones-esque, stylised Jerry lazily plopping onto his name during the title sequence. It was a complete shift from the warm and fuzzy T&J of old, and the reduced detail was Not Good. Of course, everything else that came afterwards was a fucking
travesty in every way imaginable, but anyway.
On a completely different and more OT note, what really got the entire family in the spirit was a very simple show, but one with a lot of heart:

I will always love that song.

That song contains my sig for this forum, which I never remember to post (except now), but I really like the expression.

It's definitely a Lennon/McCartney song, all right. I also can't help but love Cocker's drug-fuelled spazmatron Woodstock version of it. :D

It's perhaps missing the point of the thread, but I do rather like the ultra short/minimalist trend from a few years back. Used best by stuff like
Heroes and
LostThis, though, is a more traditional sort whose song completely makes it, and no one's mentioned it yet.
