Goddamn, it's all connected! By bright yellow lines. Why didn't I see that before?

Because, like most people, you assumed the government used red sharpies for everything.
You were wrong. You have been led astray. They hide in plain sight.

The Colbert Report intro, by design.

Love the music on the
Deadwood titles. The whole sequence captures the series' mood perfectly.

The Wire season 1 is my favourite of the show

Babylon 5's fifth season has always been my favourite of the series

Band of Brothers. The title sequence in
The Pacific has the same style but I really prefer the "original"

And on a lighter note, Magnum P.I. ;)

That said, the best I've ever seen, hands-down, is
Twin Peaks<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7oDuGN6K3VQ&hl=en_GB&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7oDuGN6K3VQ&hl=en_GB&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Hahaha holyshit, is that a real show!? :D

Why yes. It's a spoof on shows of that sort from the 80s (Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is from 2004) -- so that kind of dampens what could have been truly awesome, but still!

The makers of Darkplace endeavoured to make the show seem authentic. From "the retro Channel 4 logo at the start to the distortion of the analogue music track at the start of scenes", "the fashion, ... the texture of film stock,"[4], "[the] deliberately poor continuity, cheesy lines, wooden acting and cheap special effects"; it is delivered "in such a pitch perfect way you can't help but laugh."[3] As a result, despite the show being a parody, it succeeded in sporting a very authentic and realistic '80s feel, to the point that many people who see the show for the first time initially believe that Darkplace really is an '80s relic.

It's too easy to start liking an opening sequence just because the show behind it is good so I'll pick one from a show I've never actually watched a single episode of: (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKKbjr6qMlI) Law and Order. That intro always puts a stop to my channelsurfing when I see it, but when the actual show starts I just can't be bothered investing the time it'd take to get into it. Is it any good?
I watched the opening sequence and it looked pretty generic to me. What makes it special for you?
With so many of these '80s series (you mentioned
Knight Rider, someone else talked about
MacGyver), I wonder how much of our appreciation of the intro sequences (and the series themselves) is simply nostalgia. I find it so difficult sometimes to filter out the nostalgia factor when assessing things I liked as a kid or teenager. (
The Dark Crystal and
Labyrinth, I'm looking at you!)

It'll be that funky guitar.
The Rubicon, Deadwood and Twin Peaks intros appeal to me. What is this Rubicon? Never heard of it. And I must get around to watching Deadwood some time.
