The stock Intel cooler's a bit dinky on the i5's. I take it tightening it down didn't work? Get a replacement, I'd say. Make use of that warranty. :D

Those plastic pins that hold the heatsink on are poorly designed. Screwdrivers (like the ones they show in the instructions) tear the plastic, and they never feel quite tight. And they rattle. So I put some hot glue between each pin and the plastic ring around the heatsink. Everything's solid now and it's much quieter.
My temperatures seems pretty good so far (CPU idling around 30, load at about 40) so I'm not really too anxious to replace anything unless it's necessary.

Whichever works for you. I'd have still asked the shop to replace it, but that's me. Those are some good temperatures, though.

this might sound stupid.. but try it.
Take out your CMOS battery, wait 30 seconds and put it back in.
Try restarting.

To fix which problem? Everything's AOK now.
(but I did try clearing the CMOS before, though I used the jumper method).
